Côte D’Azur | a weekend in Antibes – what to do

Every now and then you just have to escape the Berlin summer – if only for a short weekend. The morning run down to the beach to Antibes, while the temperatures outside already begin to scald. Only briefly the feet in the water was not enough refreshment. There is nothing better than jumping into water early in the morning. Finally times again feel how salt water feels on the skin. Meanwhile, the first sailboats were already heading out to sea. The summer time was clearly noticeable, because the beach of Antibes was already well visited for the early hour. On the way back I stopped at the Boulangerie Paul. A couple of French sandwiches for breakfast, so we were fortified for the rest of the day for the first time. The afternoon we spent in La Guérite on the Île Sainte-Marguerite. For this, I can now just let the pictures speak.

The weekend was only in full swing. In the evenings we went to dinner in the charming French village of Valbonne, located about 20 minutes from Antibes in the hinterland. The evenings were getting long. So some fortification on the beach on Saturday was just the thing. I wish we could have added a few more days. Summer in Berlin is always much too short. I’m already looking forward to next year!

Longing for sun! … but put on some (mineral) sun protection

Longing for sun. From the 300 sunny days in South Tyrol Berlin can take a leaf out of its book. Last week I was still sunbathing in the beautiful mountain landscape, while this weekend the weather here in Berlin is going crazy again – sun and rain on repeat. South Tyrol on the other hand with its mostly hot and sunny valleys, as well as the strong mountain sun inspired the South Tyrolean cosmetics line Arc Suncare to make a mineral sunscreen made in South Tyrol . I was very happy to be contacted by the brand and to present products from my home region up here. Additionally, mineral suncreen makes me prick up my ears. I’ve much preferred using mineral sunscreen for a few years now, as it is immediately effective and healthier for the skin (more about that later). The last few years I tested myself eagerly through a few products, but so really happy I was not yet with…

A little reminiscence from my tanning career…. Who of you used to lie in the blazing sun all day long? Especially on vacation as a young girl I was always tanning all day. From early in the morning until evening. In between a cool down in the pool, quick fresh-up with sun screen (but sometimes even without, because otherwise you wouldn’t not get a tan) and then it went on with sizzling in the sun. A nice tan was very important back then. I still find my self laughing when seeing photos of how we always wore our bikinis slightly shifted in order you could see how tanned we were. Between us – I never really got a tan though. In the course of the years of study, however, I came to terms with my “noble pallor”. In the meantime, I am aware of the damage and try to protect at least my face always with 50 SPF.

In winter, I only use a day cream with sun protection factor (preferably the one from Paulas Choice, about which I have already written). In spring and summer, however, the light sun protection of SPF30 is no longer enough for me. Here comes again my beloved organic sunscreen to use. The sunscreen from Arc Suncare is currently daily in use.

MINERAL SUN CREAMS really that effective and harmless?

I am always amazed that the majority around me don’t know the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens have been controversial for years because their ingredients not only settle on the skin as a film, but also penetrate the skin.

One important point that immediately convinced me of mineral sunscreens was the effectiveness factor. Mineral sunscreens do not act chemically, but physically. The nanoparticles of titanium and/or zinc oxides contained in them form a protective layer and act like little mirrors that reflect the sun. Thus, they protect immediately from the sun, while chemical sunscreens require a reaction time for the first time.
Chemical filters are currently being closely scrutinized not only for environmental reasons, but also for health reasons. In the USA in particular, excessive concentrations are increasingly appearing in the bloodstream.

Why zinc? Zinc oxides are UV stable and therefore offer very long-lasting protection.

NON-NANO ZINC OXIDE by Arc Suncare

Arc Suncare uses a special market leading certified non-nano zinc oxide developed over the last 20 years by their Australian technology partners. Patented processes and extensive research have created a type of zinc oxide that provides a high level of broad spectrum protection and is transparent once rubbed in.

  • Also, Arc Suncare’s sunscreen also consists of moisturizing coconut, jojoba oil and white beeswax, protecting and hydrating the skin.

I am really very positively surprised by the Arc Suncare sun cream. The sun cream is absorbed very quickly and the, with other mineral sun creams present, white film disappears immediately also again (* you see below in the GIF). My friend says at this point also “Thank” to Arc Suncare, that he came back just as white as before from our México trip in March 😅. MEN. The men have always been covered by me with my great SOFORT effective sunscreen and at the same time taught better.

Long time no see … AGAIN!

Slowly it annoys me to begin every blog post with “long time no see”. Although my favorite blogger baby is very grown up after 11 years now it still doesn’t publish on its own. Whereas years ago I’d put a lot of pressure onto myself when I didn’t post for weeks, this has totally changed. And guess what, funnily enough today is another one of those days where I greet you again with “long time no see“. One more time or maybe the last time. I’ve just realized that it’s Friday today, which usually would have been a restaurant recommendation. But better a new look than no post!

THOUGHTS on how to proceed here….

The last few days I reminisced a lot in these old post entries and reflected on how to continue here. More importantly, how to get my energy back on here! I was triggered by the blog relaunch of some “OG Blogger” (yes apparently that’s how our blogger generation is called), who miss their own platform and relaunched their blogs. Fed up with Instagram pressure with its algorithms and the desire for more freedom in posting. I think it would be nice to see our platforms come more to the fore again. Back to more personal content and not photo productions not according to the requirements of Instagram with hideous filters. Taking more time to write articles again instead of scrolling for inspiration on Instagram in the same amount of time.

However, my motivation has been like a roller coaster ride. Unfortunately, Covid-19 has had an additional negative effect on this. Luckily, you’ve never seen the crash of the roller coaster here. Last year e.g., I tried to take the on-ramp very often. Content was shot and then saved in drafts since then and never published. I still have at least 20 articles in the drafts where merely the text still needs to be published. I’m just currently lacking in inspiration. Also, I am someone who needs a little push from others every now and then. Another “problem” is also that I no longer have my independent daily routine like I used to. Consequently, my “inspiration time” is also no longer flexible. Especially when it comes to writing texts I can’t just switch on that inspiration. Same for the photo ideas.

On top of that, Corona and its restrictions restricted my favorite topics – food & travel. Traveling is not recommended. Restaurants are still closed. Yes, I could have done posts about restaurants and their pick-up meals or home deliveries. But honestly, my articles include not only the food, but also the ambiance and design in the restaurant. On the other hand, I’ve also been taking advantage of the pandemic to become a chef in my own kitchen, which I really enjoyed instead of ordering food. I promise once all of this is over you’ll get a lot more restaurant recommendations here.

more secondhand shopping!

Enough the complaints – let’s talk about todays look! Despite the fact that I currently have no special occasions to wear my Spring/Summer wardrobe I had the need to completely change my wardrobe. I’ve enjoyed shopping a lot second hand shopping. On the one hand, I’m a big fan of the circular economy, and besides, you really save a lot of money. A new pair of Guess jeans for only 25€ in perfect condition, a few blouses for everyday wear for 10-20€. A very nice find was also this Hallhuber coat. At the time only borrowed for the shooting, I have now re-bought instead of the original price of 130€ (!!!) for a measly 25€. The next step is now just to put my parts online and get rid of my packed wardrobe.

In this look I wear my new blouse from Edited to the Flared Pant and sweet little bag from Inyati. Completely in Berlin or Corona style combined with white sneakers from Noname (my absolute favorite sneaker brand!!). But the look can also be combined just as well with pumps.

Happy Friday & have a wonderful weekend!

Personalized city maps – bringing our homes to your new home

Phew, the winter was long! But I’ll believe it when it finally stops snowing and cold here. However, I have made good use of the cold days to redesign a lot of corners in the flat. After my boyfriend left most of the decorating to me (except for his sanctuary of the TV and couch), I recently surprised him with these personalised posters. Two posters with our hometowns – Bolzano/Uberretsch and Cologne.

CITY MAP POSTER as personalized gift

When I moved away from Munich, my friends also gave me a city map, which is still hanging at home. Also, for our architecture studies, we always had black plans, which then made a great gift. Thanks to the latest technologies, this has become much easier. I ordered the city map posters from Positive Prints.

You can order the city map posters in various designs – in classic frames, on cushions, printed posters, canvas or simply as a digital version to print out yourself. I especially like the fact that you can mark exact addresses on the maps. But if you don’t like this option, you can leave it out.

I have never shown you our flat in its “finished” state (although when are you ever finished decorating?). The last weekends I walked around the flat with the drill and moved all the pictures. But I couldn’t decide where to put the new posters yet. I’ll leave them on the dresser for now. Picture frames are especially good as decoration!

The company also offers the Golden Maps, which I unfortunately saw too late. Such posters are definitely eye-catchers for the living room, but also for the kitchen.

Gift ideas | Giving memories with photos – always a good idea!

I have no idea what came over me that made me order all my photos as prints. Prints of the last three years with all my travels I have made through blogging. But also photo prints from trips with my friends. But the best idea is still to come…

PHOTO BOOKS as memories

The best idea was to stick them all neatly by hand into these beautiful sketchbooks (which we always bought for our studies). A great plan, which would have been a great occupation for the first lockdown… also for the second lockdown light. But guess how many albums I finally made? Maybe three or four… of at least 10-15 trips! I would have saved myself a lot of time by simply ordering a photo book online. Of course I hadn’t calculated the hours of work.

  • A good supplier here is Albelli, for example, which offers not only photo books, but also many beautiful photo products.

… and also perfect as a Christmas present!

Photo books are particularly suitable as Christmas gifts. This year, however, I unfortunately did not take many trips with my friends and family. But I will order a small album with our conversion online. As you have noticed on Instagram (@thegoldenbun), we have started to extend our attic in spring. I also find it very exciting to record the conversion as a memory.

Two years ago I ordered a photo calendar for my grandfather, which I can definitely recommend to you. I will do this again in the coming days. Next year, I absolutely have to take more photos again, so that I have more photos to choose from.

Do you still make “old school” photo albums or do you prefer to order photo books online?

I wish you a nice day!
