EN – ChinaDay10.After our 16h trainride followed by a 9h bus day the next day we finally reached Jiuzhaigou. Unfortunately, it turned out that the place I actually wanted to go to, the one I’d seen on the net wasn’t at the Jiuzhaigou Nature Park. Nonetheless we wanted to explore the beautiful nature and got there already around 7am. Compared to Xi’an it was so freezy. We drove up to the last stop and it had minus degrees. No whonder as we discovered that we were on 3000m. The good thing about getting up was perfect to avoid the mass of Chinese tourists and being nearly alone on the hiking tracks. The laked were just too beautiful with their deep and clear, turqoise and mirroring waters. That’s were they also got their names from – colorful lake / mirror lake / tiger lake ecc. All in all, it was a nice day, but it felt quite a bit like in the woods back home.

DE – ChinaTag10. Nach unserer 16h Zugfahrt und einer abenteuerlichen 9h Busfahrt, sind wir heil in Jiuzhaigou angekommen. Leider war der Ort, zu dem ich eigentlich wollte, auf Halbweg und viel zu viel Umweg gewesen. Trotzdem habe ich mich auch den Naturpark gefreut. Frühmorgens um 7 Uhr standen wir schon vorm Eingang und fuhren mit dem Bus bis an die letzte Station. Wir hatten die Temperaturen etwas unterschätzt und kamen durchgefroren an der Spitze an. Kein Wunder – schliesslich waren wir auf 3000 Meter. Zum Glück wurden die Temperaturen im Laufe des Tages wieder angenehmer. Früh aufstehen hat sich auch gelohnt und so sind wir die Unmassen an chinesischen Touristen umgangen. Teilweise waren wir auch ganz alleine auf den Wanderstrecken. Und es hat sich ausgezahlt! Die Seen war glasklar, türkis – einfach nur wunderschön. Nur leider war die Natur im Grossen und Ganzen sehr ähnlich wie bei uns zuhause.

Culinary tour through Xi’an
EN – Foodhopping.
In Xi’an we got to taste some deliciousnesses of the Sichuan cuisine. We discovered some really great markets and enjoyed mostly food from the stalls on the streets. Not knowing a single word of Chinese we only go to restaurants that have enough pictures of the dishes to simply point out at them. Up to now it worked pretty good!

DE – Foodhopping.In Xi’an haben wir die sichuanische Küche besser kennen gelernt. Wir haben tolle Märkte entdeckt und meistens in kleinen Imbissbuden gegessen oder an Straßenständen etwas mitgenommen. Unser einziges Kriterium war immer, dass genügend Bilder von den Gerichten an der Wand hingen oder im Menu abgebildet waren. Ohne Chinesisch ist Bestellen sonst nicht so einfach!

Street life in Xi’an
EN – ChinaDay8. What I love the most is to stroll through the city without any specific route. That’s the way you got to explore cities the best. Just my camera and I. The first two days we stayed outside of the city centre, on the other side of the city wall. Living in the suburbs was really interesting and we enjoyed exploring the streets. Apparently, Chinese spend a lot of their time outside. Above some of my favorite shots out in the full life.

DE – ChinaTag8. Das Beste um eine Stadt richtig kennen zu lernen, ist einfach drauf los zu gehen. Nur meine Kamera und ich! Die ersten beiden Tage haben wir außerhalb der Stadtmauer von Xi’an gewohnt und haben so eine ganz andere Seite der Stadt kennengelernt. Chinesen verbringen sehr viel Zeit auf den Straßen und waren so die perfekten Motive für uns, wie ihr oben sehen könnt.

EN – ChinaDay7. Xi’an offers a lot of tours outside the city and we were pretty excited to see the Terracotta Warriors, which are approximately one hour away by bus. You don’t need to take an overpriced organized tour and simply take busline 306 from the central bus/train station. Unfortunately places like these are so crowded. Also, we were a little bit disappointed and thought that there would be more of these statues. All in all, it was nothing special. Afterwards, on our way back to the city we wanted to go up the Mount Li with the cable car, which was also quite expensive. As we got up we had our second delusion of the day – the view was not really worth it. Up there would have been another park, which was nearly the double price of the cable car. Not quite a successful day!

DE – ChinaTag7. In Xi’an bietet es sich an, eine Tour ausserhalb der Stadt zu machen. Vorab wussten wir, dass wir uns die Terrakotta Soldaten ansehen mussten und hatten uns schon drauf gefreut. Ihr braucht keine überteuerte, organisierte Tour dorthin buchen, sondern könnt einfach mit der Linie 306  vom Bus/Zugbahnhof dahin fahren. Leider waren wir im Nachhinein etwas enttäuscht. Wir hatten uns die Statuen etwas spektakulärer vorgestellt und ich dachte, es seien viel mehr. Zudem war der Ort viel zu sehr mit Touristen überlaufen. Auf unserem Heimweg haben wir noch beim Mount Li Halt gemacht und sind mit der Seilbahn auf dem Berg hochgefahren. Wir erhofften uns eine spektakuläre Aussicht, aber leider war dem nicht so. Auf der Spitze wäre noch ein weiterer Park gewesen, der aber nochmals fast das doppelte wie die Bahn gekostet hätte. Leider war dieser Tag nicht so aufregend, wie wir es uns erhofft hatte.

EN – ChinaDay6. Xi’an is said to be the most Chinese city. Furthermore it is also one of the oldest one with more than 3200 years of history. Therefore, there is a lot of tourism and a lot of ancient monuments to see. We started our sightseeing tour with the Bell and Drum Tower, which are located in the centre of the city and headed on to the Giant and Small Wild Goose Pagodas. In front of the Giant one there was a huge water play to traditional music (which I showed you here). I remember myself standing there for ages and feeling like a little kid again.

DE – ChinaTag6. Xi’an ist mit einer über 3200 Jahre alten Geschichte, wohl eine der Ältesten. Es sind noch viele alte Gebäude und Monumente erhalten, wodurch natürlich sehr viele Touristen angezogen werden. Wir haben unsere Sightseeing-Tour bei zwei wichtigen Wahrzeichen begonnen – dem Glcoken- und Trommelturm. Anschließend ging es weiter zu der Großen und Kleinen Wilden Pagode. Bei der Großen fand auf dem Platz ein riesiges Wasserspiel zu traditioneller chinesischer Musik statt (ein Video davon gibt es hier). Ich erinnere mich noch daran, wie ich stundenlang vor den Fontänen gestanden bin – wie ein kleines Kind.
