One Year Performances
Tehching Hsieh is a performance-artist and is known for it’s longtime performances. We’ve got to see one of his most famour performance – “The Time Clock”, where he forced himself to take a picture of himself every single hour. Also, he did a one-year-performance with Linda Montano. They decided to be chained to each other for a year, were not constrained to be always together, but not allowed to touch each other. Such performances seem crazy and I have the fullest respect for these endurances.

Einjahres-Performances
Tehching Hsieh ist einer der bekanntesten Performance-Künstler. Wir haben ein paar seiner bekanntesten gesehen – “The Time Clock”. Die Performance bestand darin, sich zu jeder vollen Stunde abzulichten. Außerdem hat er zusammen mit Linda Montano eine weitere Performance gemacht, indem sie ein Jahr aneinander gekettet waren, immer zusammen bleiben mussten, aber sich nicht berühren durften. Respekt für so viel Durchhaltevermögen!

EN – ChinaDay2. On our second day in Beijing we skipped the classical sightseeing program and drove to 798 Art District. It is also known under Factory 798, which used to be a military factory district. Nowadays it is a vibrant and lively district with tons of interesting galleries, exhibitions and more. Being quite large we didn’t get to see all of it and we left something for when we return to the city. I simply love contemporary art.

DE – ChinaTag2. An unserem zweiten Tag haben wir das klassische Sightseeing-Programm mal übersprungen und sind zum 798 Art District gefahren. Ursprünglich wurde das Viertel militärisch genutzt, deshalb wird es auch Fabrik 798 genannt. 1995 haben sich florierende Künstlergemeinschaften niedergelassen und hat sich so zu einem lebhaften und bunten Szeneviertel geworden. Das Viertel ist sehr weitläufig und haben leider nicht alles geschafft anzusehen, was wir dann in den letzten Tagen in Peking noch nachholen werden.

Springs Valley Beijing Hotel. Before moving to my friend we spoiled ourselves with a little bit more expensive hotel. I assure you that we’ve been sleeping only in low budget hotels and preferably hostels from then on.

Beijing has a lot of great hotels to offer and we came across the Beijing Springs Valley Hotel. All in all, it was a great stay. Although I expected at least somebody to speak a little bit of English. The rooms were cozy, but you should get used to open bathrooms. Privacy has another definition compared to Europe. The best was definitely breakfast. They served a rich breakfast buffet of Continental as well as Chinese cuisine. Being still a bit jet-lagged we enjoyed some Chinese noodles and veggies.

Chinese open bathrooms
Apparently, Chinese love open bathrooms. Even though, we’re really close friends it took much to get used to them. On the one hand, our bathroom was beautifully designed and you could see yourself out of every single angle in the mirrors – I totally refuse open bathrooms!

Xiaojingchang Hutong. Valentin and I arrived in Beijing in the late afternoon. Our hotel was located in Southern Peking so we headed to closest attraction nearby – the Longtan Park. Apparently, parks cost 2RMB all around the city. Being quite tired, we had a relaxing stroll through the park. Afterwards, we finally met up with my friend Jenny, who I was so happy to see after such a long time. Together we headed onto Xiaojingchang Hutong, which is a lively neighboorhood full with restaurants, bars, shops and more in the North of the city. Starving we ended up at Dali Su for our first Chinese dinner. But more about it in my foodhopping post on Friday.

Anecdote Nr.1
On our first day we’ve already experienced our lack of Chinese to the fullest. Taking a cab is a comfortable (and so cheap) way of transportation, but not that easy if you haven’t got your address in Chinese. On our way home the taxi driver didn’t understand the address of our hotel that he dropped us off somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Of course, my iPhone let me down once again, being out of battery. Desperately, we tried to find someone who looked European asking for help. Luckily, we pumped into two – what a coincidence, German guys whose help we got the address in Chinese. Note to ourselves: always take the Chinese address with us.

EN – Homesweethome. I enjoyed the time back home to the fullest as you’ve seen in my monthly recap. And now a new adventure is coming up – China! I am so excited to see one of my best friends from Munich again over there and travelling with one of my closest friends and photographer. The route?! Not clear yet, but you’ll surely get regular updates! Until then I am staying offline for a bit and enjoying the time… In the meantime I have a little surprise, which you’ll discover soon.
On some of the last days I took this cute polka dotted dress from Lulus.com out with a pair of wedges. I rediscovered this cute little clutch from Tally Wjeil, which was hidden some where in my closet. But I can only repeat myself – the hot days are over!

DE – Homesweethome. Ich habe den Sommer zuhause sehr, sehr genossen und eine kleine Zusammenfassung von August gabs es gestern. Neuer Monat – neues Abenteuer!  Unser nächstes Reiseziel ist China. Ich freue mich so sehr eine meiner besten Freundinnen aus München in Peking wieder zu treffen und zusammen mit einem meiner engsten Freunde und Fotografen zu reisen. Wohin genau es geht? Das steht noch nicht so fest, aber ich werde euch sicherlich regelmäßig auf dem Laufenden halten! Bis dahin werde ich mal ein paar Tage offline gehen… eine kleine Überraschung wartet aber auf euch in den nächsten Tagen.
In den letzten wärmeren Sommertagen habe ich dieses süße Kleidchen von Lulus nochmal ausgeführt. Außerdem habe ich mal diese süße Clutch aus dem hinteren Ende meines Kleiderschrankes hervorgeholt. Aber leider, sind diese warmen Tage vorbei.
