EN – Toronto. What a great city – we had so much fun! We stayed 4 nights and 3 days, so here is a more explicit post. We stayed at The Planet Traveller and I’ve never seen a hostel like that. It definitely felt like staying at a deluxe hotel. Especially, the great view from the rooftop terrace convinced us to stay for another night. Also, the people were really cool and easy to get in touch with.DAY 1: After stopping by the Royal Ontario Museum, we drove downtown to the Flatiron Building and wanted to go to St. Lawrence market, but is always closed on Sundays/Mondays. We headed on to have lunch and some relaxing moments at Origin (the foodguide is up on the previous post). In the afternoon we took the ferry to the Toronto Islands where we enjoyed a lot of – too much sun that I got sunburnt at the beach. The islands are great, but they are the only access to water, because the city itself is cordoned off by the highway along the coast-side. We arrived at the hostel late in the afternoon and whiled away the evening with a great sunset on the rooftop terrace.

DAY 2: The Bixi bike-rental system in Toronto is the easiest way to get around in the city and we explored the city a bit. Our first stop was the Art Gallery of Toronto and the Ontario College of Art & Design. Afterwards we drove to the City Hall and Nathan Phillips square. We had sushi at Spring Rolls and went a little bit window shopping at the Toronto Eaton Centre.

DAY 3: Kensington Market was just around our corner, so we had a stroll around that area. Little lunch stop at Sanagan’s Meat Locker, which is absolutely a great spot (also – see more in my previous food guide-post). Afterwards, we headed on to the … Finally, I got to see the St. Lawrence market, whereof I was a little bit disappointed, because it was just like any other market. The rest of the day we spent looking for a classical Toronto Maple Leafs T-Shirt, but they were almost sold out everywhere. Luckily, we found one at the stadium’s shop. Go Maple Leafs go!

DE – Toronto. Was für eine coole Stadt – wir hatten so viel Spaß! Da wir uns ein bisschen länger in Toronto aufgehalten haben, gibt es einen ausführlicheren Post über die Stadt. Untergekommen sind wir im The Planet Traveler, das ich euch nur wärmstens empfehlen kann. Das Hostel ist supermodern und die Leute sind supercool drauf.DAY 1: Gleich frühmorgens sind wir zum Royal Ontario Museum gefahren und dann weiter zum Flariron Building. Die Straße runter befindet sich der St. Lawrence market, der leider geschlossen war – wie jeden Sonntag/Montag/Feiertage. Dort in der Nähe haben wir dann die Sonntagssonne im Origin genossen (der Toronto Food Guide ist ja bereits online – hier). Nachmittags sind wir auf die Toronto Islands gefahren, wo wir den restlichen Nachmittag am Strand verbracht haben und auch gleich den ersten Sonnenbrand geholt haben. Die Inseln sind super, aber leider sind sie der einzige öffentliche Zugang zum Lake Ontario, da die Küste durch den Highway abgesperrt ist. Anschließend haben wir den Abend auf der Dachterrasse unseres Hostels ausklingen lassen.

DAY 2: Am nächsten Morgen sind wir gleich mit unseren Fahrrädern losgedüst – der BIXI-Fahrradverleih ist eine super Möglichkeit um günstig und schnell sich in der Stadt fortzubewegen. Unser erster Stop war die Art Gallery of Toronto und das Ontario College of Art & Design, wovon man einen genialen Ausblick auf die Stadt hat. Anschließend sind wir noch beim Rathaus und Nathan Philips Square vorbeigefahren. Das Toronto Eaton Centre befindet sich nur ein paar Straßen weiter, wo man super einkaufen kann. Bei mir blieb es vorerst nur beim „window“-shoppen.

DAY 3: Gleich um die Ecke unseres Hostels befand sich der Kensington Market, wo wir unbedingt bei der Metzgerei Sanagan’s Meat Locker vorbei schauen mussten (auch hier gibt es mehr Bilder in meinem Food Guide). Anschließend haben wir uns den Bau des … angesehen, wovon wir nochmal zum St. Lawrence Market gefahren sind. Leider ist der Markt nicht wirklich spektakulär. Den restlichen Tag haben wir damit verbracht, ein Toronto Maple Leafs Trikot zu suchen, die fast überall ausverkauft waren. Schlussendlich mussten wir bis zum Stadium fahren, um endlich eines zu finden. Go Maple Leafs Go!
