#thegoldenbunontour | 5 places to visit in Florence

5 places to visit in Florence. The city has been on my list for a couple years now and somehow I’ve never made it. Luckily, this term’s architecture studio included a trip to Florence. You can imagine how excited I was!

The four days were quite intense with visiting many beautiful Renaissance villas by Ruccellai, Vasari, Michelangelo and much more (an architecture guide is coming up). Of course, we had to do some tourist sights as well.
Here are 5 places to visit in Florence.

The Golden Bun | Travelblog, Firenze, Florence, what to visit in Florence

1. Enjoy the view from the cupola of Santa Maria del Fiore

Undoubtedly, Santa Maria del Fiore is the attraction in Florence. When we flew into the city we’ve already could see the enormous cupola reaching out of the city. I am still impressed of the size of the duomo. You may queue for a long time for entering the Duomo or the Cupola but it is definitely worth it. I highly recommend to climb up the Cupola towards the end of the day like we did. We were the last group going up and enjoyed a beautiful view over the city plus the evening light is always the best … if the weather is good!

2. A walk through Giardino Bardini

Another favourite was our morning walk through Giardino Bardini on our first day. I discovered it through Pinterest and it was said to be a real secret spot. In fact, there weren’t a lot of people visiting. Unfortunately, we didn’t catch the right season and missed the blooms in spring. Also, go there early when the light is soft!

3. The sunset from San Miniato al Monte & Piazzale Michelangelo

For a great view over the city you definitely need to go to either Piazzale Michelangelo or San Miniato al Monte, which is by the way such a beautiful and interesting church. We only enjoyed the view from San Miniato al Monte shortly as we had to rush to the Duomo to make it for the last entrance to the cupola. But friends of mine recommended stopping at Antico Vinaio
for a delicious foccaccia (apparently one of the best in town) and then climb up the hill to enjoy the evening sun from Piazzale Michelangelo. Sounds good!

4. A stroll through Giardini di Boboli & Palazzo Pitti

One more pretty parc are the Giardini di Boboli, where you can spent hours. My favorite part was the small rosery at the porcelain museum. Not only can you enjoy nature’s beauty but also have a lovely view on Tuscany’s hilly landscape. You’ll have one more great view over the whole city from the Belvedere Castle.

5. A visit of Santa Croce & drinks in the evening

Santa Croce is located in the centre and is one more beautiful church you have to visit. Italian churches are just incredible and we couldn’t stop thinking how people did it? Think of Michelange, who spent 70 years of his live painting churches, creating art and being architect as well, is unthinkable these days.
Towards the end of the day we let the evening fade away with some cool beers and pizza to go on the square in front of Santa Croce. Apparently, it is one of the places where you meet for some drinks in the evening. I quite miss this Italian way of living in Munich. One more great spot for drinks at night is San Spirito.

Burger-Tasting. Next to the Grill 93 (told you about their new concept here) the Marriott München hotel has one more restaurant – the Champions Sportsbar. Since I’d seen the delicious burger in the kitchen I knew I had to come back. So what’s better than trying all burger at the same time?

The Champions Sportsbar offers a burger tasting, which they mostly organize for companies but is also available for public. You’ll taste three burger in one round and can order as much as you want. We were five people and were sure to make it through all burgers – no problemo! But already after the first round plus snacking on delicious sweet potato fries, onion rings and chicken wings we were so full. Nonetheless we didn’t want to give up and tried five more burgers. All in all, we tasted all of the eight special burger leaving two out. They were all so good but my favorite was the BBQ burger (still dreaming about it – too good) followed by the Black and White burger and surprisingly the veggie burger.

Of course, you can order all burgers à la carte and they’ll be served with fries or salad. The burger tasting costs 39€ per person and you can order as much burger as you want (I recommend being at least five people).

Enjoy!

I couldn’t be happier about the new layout now. In fact, I’ve been starting to regret not having moved to WordPress two years ago when I changed to my new layout, that it was about time to give my blog new opportunities.
So here we are – fresh new layout with lots of possibilities!

If you’re thinking of changing to WordPress, there are so many articles up on the net to help you with it. Find one great article and one more (unfortunately the articles are only available in German, but maybe you can use Google Translate)

With these articles moving is very easy. I do know a little bit about HTML and code every post by myself. But I recognised that moving my blog will be a lot more complex. And before causing a lot of chaos, I’ve decided to get myself some professional help from a friend from Hatake.
You cannot imagine how long it took us to import all my posts and pictures! Luckily, WordPress has some handy tools that ease the transfer (e.g. Photobucket Image importer / Blogpost importer and more). Even though my old layout and blogposts have already been organized by html, WordPress didn’t take over the code. Moreover, I had like 10 different types of posts with different picture sizes that had to be changed (that is so me – little chaos queen). After about two weeks it was done now!

Why WordPress?

  1. being independent
  2. having my own webspace to upload unlimited material
  3. having all tools (e.g. Google Analytics) on one surface
  4. more design possibilities
  5. SEO reasons (still needs to be fixed)
  6. addition to point 5. Language switch. The possibilities to write articles in one language rather two in one (still needs to be done too)
  7. WordPress is a lot handier to use mobile / apparently Google is ranking non-mobile websites worse than mobile ones

What’s new?

  • a new home surface with slider and grid layout
  • updated categories, e.g. travel section divided in countries / food-guides / blogroll
  • the possibility to change to the classic blog mode
  • full-width posts with bigger image size
  • a well-functioning mobile version
  • and a lot more … discover yourself!

All in all, I am very happy with the result and I hope you like it too?

Wish you a wonderful day!

Hello from back in Munich! Last week I’ve spammed you with tons of pictures from Florence and now I still have to go through all the thousands of pictures I’ve taken.

As promised here comes a new look. My mom has finally brought me one of my white pants from Bozen, which I wore to the ‘Schatzi meets BMW’-Event last week. I absolutely love the combination of the light shades. Moreover, the classic trench dresses the elegant outfit a bit down. But the evening ended with one broken heel which was not so pleasant. Luckily, I’d brought ballet pumps with me to cycle back home. There is always a first time!

Wish you a wonderful day!

My blog slowly turns into a recipe collection. But no worries, a lot of new posts are coming up in the next days. Did you know that today is World Baking Day? I found it out through a few blogs and when it comes to sweets I’m all in.

Sanella presents this year’s motto Bake yourself Happy On World Baking Day. Therefore I brought you my favourite cake recipe – a fruity strawberry biscuit cake. Since I am currently back home and I will enjoy it to the fullest. Without any question it is the perfect dessert for summertime! My mom loves to bake it for special occasions. I still remember the five layer version for my 18th birthday, which was out of this world. Last year I made it for the first time by myself and surprised my boyfriend with a raspberry version for his birthday. Here comes my World Baking Day strawberry biscuit cake-recipe:

What you’ll need:

for the cake base:
80g corn flour
40g flour
125g sugar
2 teaspoon baking powder
4 eggs
salt

for the strawberry jelly
300gr strawberries
1 tablespoon sugar
2-3 tablespoon lemon juice
2 sheets of gelatine

fort he strawberry mousse:
360g strawberries
100g sugar
90g albumen
lemon juice
250g cream
6 sheets of gelatine

for the yoghurt cream
500g yoghurt
80g sugar
400g cream
sugar of 1 lemon
4 sheets of gelatine

layering:
strawberry jelly
strawberry mousse
yoghurt cream
cake base

  1. prepare the biscuit base and bake it in a round or square form for 45 minutes with 170°C. Cut the cake base into two or three halfs.
  2. pour the yoghurt mousse onto the first cake base and let it cool for four hours in the fridge until it gets solid.
  3. as soon as the first mousse is done, continue with the second strawberry mousse layer, which you also let cool for about 4 hours.
  4. carefully put the other biscuit half on the solid layers and finish it with the strawberry jelly.
  5. best is to let it cool for one more night in the fridge.
  6. decorate it with strawberries and flowers and enjoy!

Wish you a wonderful day!
