SingaporeDiary1. On our first day we explored the famous area around Marina Bay Sands, which is perfect for a half day sightseeing tour. Compared to the prices in Bali Singapore’s attractions were so expensive. We didn’t do the walk on the Supertrees but visited the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome instead, which were definitely worth their money. In the Cloud Forest Dome they created a tropical atmosphere with a huge waterfall and beautiful flowers. I think I spent at least one hour to take pictures of all those marvelous orchids.

BaliDiary14. And here comes the last entry from Bali. Meanwhile we’re back in Singapore until tomorrow and I am not ready to leave the heat for cold Germany. Our Singapore adventure will be up in a few days then. But let’s get back to Bali for now.

In the surroundings of Ubud there are a lot of rice terraces and it is so worth renting a motorbike to drive through them. Who doesn’t want to take the long road can visit the smaller but quite touristy ones in Tegelalang. We decided to take the longer way and drive to Jatiluwih. Supposedly, the most beautiful ones. ‘jatiluwih’ means wonderful in Balinese. There are many ways to reach them. Either you hire a driver for a daily tour but you can also drive there by motorbike like we did. Since we spent one night again in Ubud afterwards we could leave our backpacks there. I would’nt have wanted to drive the road with all our luggage. We took Google Maps’ route which led us once again on bumpy roads to our final destination. But for 5€ in total it was definitely worth this way.

In Jatiluwih we stayed one night at the Warung Teras Subak homestay, which is located directly at the ricefields. One night costs 250,000 IDR, around 16€ including breakfast. The owners were really nice and showed us a few trekking routes. Kindly enough, they also borrowed us two Chinese hats for protecting from the sun.

The next day we drove early in the morning to the 11km farther away Pura Luhur Batukaru. I highly recommend going there in the morning as you have a wonderful panorama onto the vulcan in the background. When we left it was already covered with clouds. In the end, we took again the bumpy way back to Ubud. After this I didn’t want to drive any motorbike any longer.

BaliDiary1. Whenever you’re in Bali and want to visit a temple you need to dress properly. Most of the times you can borrow a traditional ‚sarong‘ at the entrance. I liked them a lot and found a really nice once in Lombok in order to be prepared for visiting a temple spontaneously.

BaliDiary12. The past weeks we always had breakfast included with our accommodation. Since we’ve been eating banana pancakes every day we decided not to take breakfast included in Kebun Bistro, a lovely bistro offering various fresh meals for breakfast and lunch. Also, they have a great list of vines.

Moreover, I higly recommend Bali Buddha for breakfast. For the first time in my life I tried chia pudding which I didn’t like at all. Maybe I need to try another recipe. But the hot oatmeal with caramel and coconut milk was so delicious.

On the other hand, we were a little bit disappointed of Three Monkeys which one of lonely planets favorites. High prices and the quality and taste of the meals was not worth it.

BaliDiary1. After six beautiful days in Lombok we decided to drive to Ubud for some ‘Eat, Pray, Love‘-feeling. Some of my friends didn’t recommend it as it’s quite touristy and there’s lots of traffic. All absolutely true but Ubud was charming, though. The ricefields around Ubud are just too wonderful and peaceful. Mainly, I loved it for its nice restaurants and cafés, whereof I’ll show you some on Friday.

On the first day we drove to the famous Gunung Kawi and Pura Tirta Empul temple which was a 40 minutes away – my favorite temples so far. When you visit the Pura Tirta Empul there is another temple on top of the hill which is visited rarely. A very kind priest welcomed us and proudly showed us around telling us the temple’s history. He was so nice!

Afterwards we followed our Google Maps route to Gunung Kawi. Remember do not always trust Google Maps routes on Bali! Unfortunately, we weren’t brought to the actual entrance but at the end of a street where locals welcomed us. Apparently we weren’t the first once to find this way. They kindly offered to bring us down to the temple but we declined with thanks and tried to find our way down on our own. At some parts we were quite lost and one local was kind enough to show us the way down. What an adventure! In the end it was so worth it and the view on top onto the rice terraces was so beautiful.
