Foodhopping in Shanghai. After we’d already gotten a great insight into the various cooking-types we were pretty excited to taste the Shanghainese style. I can highly recommend you Royal China, where you should choose some of the dumplings on the last page – can’t remember how they were called. So delish! But if you are looking for even more delicious steamed buns head down to Jia Jia Tangbao. They opend very early in the morning and close around arbitrary. It is even recommended to go there before lunchtime as it gets really crowded afterwards. Those were the most delicious Xia Long Bao we had. Also go for the seaweed soup with eggs. That lunch was definitely to die for!

Longji Terrace Rice Fields
EN – ChinaDay16. Seeing the rice fields was on top of my must-see in China. Luckily, there were some daily trips from Yangshuo to the Longji Terraced Rice Fields or also known under Dragon’s Backbone rice fields. Our tour included also a visit to the long hair village. Women cut their hair only once at the age of 18 and let it grow by then. They also wear different hairstyles depending if they’re single, married or have children. Quite interesting to see, but I don’t recommend it. Afterwards you drive up the hill to the terraced rice fields and can hike up to the top, where you have an amazing view over them. Overall, it would have been better to visit them either in spring or autumn.

DE – ChinaTag16. Die Reisfelder in Longsheng waren unter den Highlights unserer Rundreise. Zum Glück konnten wir von Yangshuo einen Tagesausflug dorthin machen. In unserer Tour war auch der Besuch des Langhaar-Dorfes inklusive. Die Frauen des Dorfes schneiden ihre Haare nur einmal mit 18 Jahre und lassen sie von dort an wachsen. Der Besuch ist recht interessant, aber muss nicht unbedingt sein. Ich empfehle euch direkt hoch zu den Reisfeldern zu fahren. Die Aussicht von oben ist super, aber die Reisfelder sind im Frühling oder Herbst noch viel schöner.

Bamboo, bamboo boat?
There are tons of people advertising for bamboo boat cruises. Ours was organized by the hostel for 350yuan/2 person. But if you are thinking of driving peacefully up the river, you are wrong. There are millions of other bamboo motor boats causing heavy noise.

Bamboo, bamboo boat?
Bereits im Dorf wird man ständig angesprochen, ob man eine Bambusboatstour machen will. Wir haben uns dann doch für eine vom Hostel aus organisierte entschieden. Gekostet hat uns der Spaß um die 350 yuan für 2 Leute. Aber wer glaubt in Ruhe den Fluss hoch zu tuckern, liegt falsch. Es tümmeln sich nämlich tausende an weiteren Bambusboote mit Motor auf dem Fluss. Und ihr könnt euch nicht vorstellen, wie laut die Dinger sind.

EN – ChinaDay15.Xingping is a quiet and peaceful fishermens’ village 40 minutes away from Yangshuo. We stayed at the This Old Place Youth Hostel, which I can highly recommend you – newly constructed and clean rooms. We’d heard a lot about the wonderful sunrise on Mountain Laizhou and got up really early to see it. Soaked up with litres of humidity we arrived on top. Imagine that it was even 34 degrees in the morning. Unfortunately, it was a little bit too cloudy but the view from up there was still great. Afterwards we made a bamboo boat tour on River Li and hiked two hours back. Of course, we were super tired in the evening and starving. We found a restaurant with local food, which served us the best green stuffed peppers so far. But really spicey! Life’s was to good there…

DE – ChinaTag15.Xingping ist ein kleines und ruhiges Fischerdörfchen ungefähr 40 Minuten von Yangshuo entfernt. Wir haben im This Old Street Youth Hostel übernachtet, das ich euch sehr empfehlen kann. Die Zimmer sind neu renoviert und sauber. Wir sind gleich frühmorgens aufgestanden um uns den Sonnenaufgang vom Berg Liazhou anzusehen. Sogar in der Früh sind es immer noch 34 Grad und so sind wir klitschnass oben angekommen. Leider war es etwas zu verhangen, aber der Ausblick war trotzdem beeindrucked. Anschliessend sind wir auf dem Fluss Li mit einem Bambusbötchen hochgetuckert und von dort aus wieder zurück gewandert. Abends haben wir ein nette Lokal mit typischem Essen gefunden, wo wir die leckersten gefüllten Paprika gegessen haben. Richtig scharf und heiss – aber so lecker.

Chinese underestimate distances
We rented some bicycles and wanted to ride to some spots that were farther away. At the tourism centre we were told that it was way too far away. Don’t believe Chinese that is too far away! In the end, it is an hour bicycle ride. No wonder that they can’t deal with such distances if they are going hiking and biking with highheels.

Wir haben uns Fahrräder ausgeliehen und wollten zu einer weiter entfernten Attraktion fahren. Uns wurde aber sofort davon abgeraten, da es zu weit sei! Am Ende war es aber nur eine Stunde Fahrradfahrt. Lasst euch also nicht abschrecken, wenn Chinesen sagen, dass es zu weit entfernt sei. Ist ja auch kein Wunder, dass ihnen alles so weit entfernt vorkommt, wenn sie mit Highheels wandern und Fahrrad fahren gehen.

EN – ChinaDay13/14. Our next destination was the beautiful landscape around Guilin, where it was so hot and sweaty compared to the freezy nature in Jiuzhaigou. The area is known for its unique mountain landscape and the river Li that flows through the valley. We stayed a few nights in Yangshuo and another two nights in Xingping. Imagine Yangshuo as the Chinese Rimini – crowded and lively, loud and touristy. On the main roads there is one Chinese club after the other, whereof everybody wants to attract customers with even louder music. It seemed to be the number one holiday destination for Chinese people. On other hand, the really quiet Xingping, which is an old fishers’ village. Tomorrow I am going to tell you more about it. There are loads of things you can do – hiking, boattours, climbing and more. The best we could’ve done was to rent some bicycles and ride through the nature. We even drove to the nature park Shangri-La, which is around 15km away towards Guilin.

DE – ChinaTag13/14.Unser nächstes Ziel war die traumhafte Landschaft in der Nähe von Guilin, wo wir erst mal einen Temperaturschock erlitten – 34 Grad und eine unvorstellbare Luftfeuchte. Ein krasser Unterschied zu den Minusgraden in Jiuzhaigou zuvor. Wir sind ein paar Tage in Yangshuo geblieben und noch zwei Tage in Xingping. Die Gegend ist für ihre hügelige Berglandschaft und Bootstouren auf dem Fluss Li bekannt. Yangshuo könnt ihr euch wie das chinesische Rimini vorstellen. Besonders Abends, wenn man durch die Gassen schlendert, wird man aus tausend Richtungen mit lauter Musik und schreienden Händlern beschallt. Im Gegensatz zum friedlichen Fischerdörfchen Xingping, das sich 40 Minuten davon entfernt befindet. Mehr dazu gibt es morgen. Neben all den turistischen Sachen, kann man auch sehr gut klettern oder auch Fahrradfahren gehen. Letzteres war das Beste was wir machen konnten und es war so schön gemütlich durch die Landschaft zu tuckern. Schlussendlich sind wir sogar bis zum 15km entfernten Naturpark Shangri-La gefahren.

EN – Daisyflowers. Nǐ hǎo from Shanghai! I skip a little bit forward in my travel diary as I still need to edit all my pictures from Yangshuo, Xingping and Longsheng. Shanghai is treated us pretty good! Unfortunately, we are flying back to Beijing tonight. Here is a look I’ve worn on an night out in Shanghai. I’d seen this cute daisy flower dress on a few other Chinese women and had to buy it (update!! I found the same dress on Chicnova) Shanghai is such a great shopping spot!

DE – Gänseblümchen. Nǐ hǎo aus Shanghai! Ich habe leider ein kleines technisches Problem mit meinem Computer, deshalb sind meine Bilder aus Yangshuo, Xingping und Longsheng immer noch auf meiner Speicherkarte. In Shanghai kann man so richtig gut shoppen gehen und dieses schöne Kleidchen musste es dann sein (Update!! ich habe das Kleid bei Chicnova wiedergefunden) Ausserdem war es mal wieder Zeit für einen Outfitpost. Dies war einer meiner Feierlooks in Shanghai. Die Zeit vergeht echt wie im Fluge und heute geht es leider wieder zurück nach Peking.
