Philips Hue. Isn’t it super annoying when you’re already in bed and you’ll have to turn off your light off (of course the switch is super far away). This bothered me so many times. All I wanted was to be able to control my lights via phone. Well, some of you may already know what the topic of the post is – smart lighting.
Due to my new position I’ve dived deeper into the whole topic of be it smart building and smart home. Of course, the one or other intelligent tool had to move in. Not only for the comfort but also for energy saving. The first smart items were the smart bulbs by Philips Hue, which wouldn’t be more handy. I’ve told all my friends about them and the one or other has already bought a starter set.
Mood and atmosphere through a genius light concept
I’ve realized how important a good light concept of a room is not only during my architecture studies but also while decorating our new flat. Light creates comfort and coziness or more concentration while sitting at your desk.
LEDs bulbs are much more energy saving compared to classic bulbs. The light of the energy saving bulbs were fin. As soon as we’ve installed the Philips Hue Color and White Ambiance in the corridor and kitchen you could already see the difference. The light was super pleasant.
Philips Hue offers a range of three types of intelligent bulbs in different sizes and types:
We have the Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance and the Philips Hue White. I can definitely approve that the more expensive Ambiance models are so worth it. We have our bulbs already since the end of November.

Personally, I’m a huge fan of colored light, which you can easy change via the app. For our house party I’ve paired the bulbs with another app and they changed the colors with the rhythm of the music.
Moreover: the Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance bulbs also simulate a “natural” sunrise. This helped me a lot to get up easily during the winter. Those of you who have a day light alarm can approve this.
AccessoriesMOTION SENSOR IN THE CORRIDOR
A highlight of the accessories is definitely the Motion Sensor, which we’ve installed in our corridor. At the beginning my roommates were a little bit skeptical and found it useless. Now we all love it. In the night you can also set up the night light in order you won’t be woken up by the strong light.

And to conclude the question you’ll be asking yourself now: what does it all cost? In general you should always calculate Smart Home investments over a longer period of at least 5 years. Short term you’ll be shocked by the high investment costs. Also, you’ll be saving a lot of energy with the smart system which in the end will pay off the investment.

Last but not least, a picture of our fiasko in the corridor – team #nolamps. Either you buy lamps right away when moving in or you’ll leave it. I’m seeing it already coming that we’ll never be buying any lamps. On the other hands, our Philips Hue bulbs look pretty stylish.
And I can only repeat myself: I enjoy it every evening to be able to turn of my light via my phone.
What do you think about the whole smart home topic?
The Future Breakfast. I love having breakfast in Neukölln even though it’s quite far from where I live. If you’ve ever been to the area around Böhmerplatz you’ll be immediately enchanted by the beautiful facades and cute squares. Moreover it will make you question if that is really Neukölln. In fact, the neighborhood got super popular within the last years. The best thing about it is that more and more great cafés open there.
Restaurant in Berlin THE FUTURE BREAKFAST
The Future Breakfast team apparently used to have a breakfast stall at Markthalle Neun before they’ve started their new project – their own café in the South of Neukölln facing one of my favorite spots Hallmann & Klee. I brought a couple of friends of me down to Neukölln for a cozy breakfast brunch – at least that was the plan…
The Future Breakfast FOOD & DRINKS
On the menu you’ll find an array of drinks – coffee, hot chocolate, home made lemonade and more. I didn’t expect the breakfast menu to be so small but I’m sure there’s everything for any taste. In the end, we ordered all four dishes and shared them.
The Breakfast Menu
Eggs Benedict (9,5€) – two poached organic eggs on homemade English muffins with chipotle, king oyster mushrooms and Hollandaise sauce
Matcha Pancakes (9,00€) – with green apple and black sesame, coconut whip
Pearl Barley Bowl (9,00€) – roasted sweet potato, pomegranate and kale bowl with a cashew and wild garlic dressing topped with two poached organic eggs (+2,50€)
Cocoa-buckwheat Granola (8,50€) with poached pear and creamy organic curd or vegan coconut yoghurt (+2,50€)
Guess who took the poached eggs? Me of course. I’ve had a few poached eggs lately and I didn’t expect them to be as good. The Oyster mushrooms went to well together with the eggs and the light salad. The little bit of paprika and chipotle was perfectly balanced.
Moreover, I shared the matcha pancakes. Although I didn’t quite taste the matcha strong enough the creamy coconut whip togheter with the black sesame was great. I didn’t try the granola but my friend liked it a lot.
The Future Breakfast Résumé
Really love café and great concept of food. The terrace outside is really lovely now in spring. Since they’ve just opened on Easter weekend it was super crowded last weekend. The problem was that the staff was absolutely not prepared for so many people to come. We’ve waited one hour for our drinks, even getting water in between took ages. Another hour passed until we got our dishes. Lucky them, they breakfast was great. I’ve talked to the café owners during the week and they assured me that they’ve hired more people for the weekend. Speaking for myself, I’ll definitely come back again. The breakfast was way too good!
Hello beauties! Finally, Spring has sprung in Berlin. I’ve finally stored away all my winter clothing. Perfect time to wear the winter heels combined spring-like for the last time. In fact, I think my western-style ankle boots look pretty cool combined to these mom jeans with pearls. And how cute is this t-shirt? (By the way, it’s quality is very soft)
Anantara resort. Getting to know Oman in only four days is almost impossible. This country’s cultural and also culinary variety is so big that it offers tourists and people thirsty for Oman’s knowledge a lot to see and to experience. In the North a unique mountain landscape, and in the South a very beautiful wadi region formed by nature and called ”Wadi Darbat”.The northern part of the country enlaced by the Oman gulf, the East and the South bathed by the Arabic Sea. Where to start best?

Dianas Point – Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort
Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort – Oman on the rocks
From Oman’s capital Muscat a road leads through mountainous landscape toward North. Its mountains are overwhelming and our destination is their highest summit called “Jebel Al Akhdar“– the green mountain. Here at Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, a de-luxe oasis created by man on the Saiq Plateau of Jebel Al Akhdar, we will pass the first days of our Oman trip. Despite its situation in the middle of the mountains, the resort is not completely isolated from outside world. Three small and old villages being still partly inhabited plus a small town are neighbouring the resort site. These old villages snuggled against the mountains and their natural shape are the first surprising thing you discover, when looking closer from the hotel rooms’ terraces. The view is breath-taking, as this nature is unique.
At the next moment, however, you come out from your thoughts and imaginations of a solitary and far removed as well as strange everyday village life to touchable perfectionism. The Resort’s suites are by no means excessively equipped. The outfits are on the contrary almost simple, but very tasteful. Dark, natural colours, traditional Oman ornaments reflecting Arabic culture, and only a few eye-catching details completing the picture. One would love starting the stay lying in this comfortable bed viewing the mountainous landscape and trying to sound out the mysterious resonance of the mountains through the open terrace doors.
An oasis in the Saiq Mountains – Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort
A walkabout through the Resort gives you a good insight, where what happens and where to retreat untroubled even outside our own hotel room. The atmospheric reading room would e.g. be just the right thing to get away from the action, when you don’t want swimming in the pool or sunbathing. Here you can really close the doors behind you and find yourself in a wonderful world of exquisite books. On the other hand, have a chess match with other lovers of this game.
A garden takes you around the whole Resort. Now and then, you see a gardener taking care of the plants and saplings, a nice pavilion right in the middle spending a lot of shadow for relaxing. Even though these pavilions are located in the hotel’s public area, they nonetheless offer some privacy and a wonderful view of the complete garden lay-out. Sun worshippers find their place at the swimming pool. Also here the magnificent view of the mighty mountains are the highlight. Here you find a completely different kind of “vacation at the pool”, and with some luck, you see wild mountain goats running below the pool and gazing curiously at you above them.
Private Luxury
The walk through the garden takes you to the suites in a private area of this luxurious Resort, where there are some villas. These are equipped very comfortably and have an own infinity pool with a one of a kind view of the unique plateau.
There are private Pools in the resort’s villa compound
Evening cinema, musical entertainment, nightly star watching and a few offers more belong to the guests’ entertainment choice. A daily changing program is on the agenda be it for adults as for children. Just for fun, without any obligation. For the smallest guests there exists also a daycare facility, where they can play or learn.
Sport, wellness & culture: Activity-Program at Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort
Naturally, there are also activities developed outside the hotel walls of the Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort. The small old villages Al Aqr, Al Ayn and Ash Shirayjah, seeming so distant upon our arrival can be visited by foot on a guided tour. The local guides will tell you on your way about everyday life of the remaining inhabitants, the way of life on the mountain plateau during the last years and the changes brought about by the Resort. It is fascinating and interesting to walk through the narrow lanes having a look at the partly well preserved ruins and the rugged or modernised houses. A mixture rich in contrast raising many questions and keeping many secrets. In the lanes you meet the few villagers very rarely, as people here lead a very reclusive life.
Pomegranates are widely diffused in northern Oman, as Mediterranean climate prevails making fruit growing possible.
Yoga & Co.
Who is not yet exploited enough, may continue on the Jabal Activity Wall. An experienced team supports sporting people in their exploration of this optimally secured climbing wall. Something you should not miss at all is a tour of the Oman Grand Canyon. The groups consist of a maximum of four persons, and a small lunch will also be provided on the way. Early in the marvellous morning sun yoga lessons are given to small groups, and not in the closed walls of a studio, but on the mountain terrace “Diana’s Point”. Relaxation, quietness and refreshing drinks await you afterwards right by the pool. Diversion on a creative level you will find on a photography tour. Landscape and outdoor photography is a nice attraction for beginners.
Asia Wellness & Detoxing
For all around relaxed body feeling the wellness area is just the right thing: massages, saunas, hammam, detox and much more. The Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort’s wellness area is a very nice, pleasant and intimate place for indulging oneself in body care and being completely on your own. Even nutrition can be changed to pure balance. The specially elaborated wellness cuisine for interior wellbeing is by no means dull, but a culinary highlight in a soft way. You must not even renounce delicious desserts.
Asia flair & good feeling at the spa
Arabic, Italian, Asian – Culinary experience & exquisite interior design
In the evenings at the very atmospheric ambiance lounge “Al Buri – The Tower” and on the outer terraces delicious drinks taste three times as well, and the life musicians’ accompanying Arabic sound abduct you from the Saiq Mountains into the dream world under the Oman sky. The best non-alcoholic Yasmin Rose Cocktail is available just in this place. The Resort’s three restaurants are convincing with stylish equipment, very courteous service, local, but also international cuisine. At the “Bella Vista” you are dining the Italian way, at the “Al Qalaa” you get regional cuisine, and all Arabic and Asian specialties are served at the “Al Maisan”.
At the „Al Maisan“a delicious breakfast is served early in the morning, but also a huge Asian Buffet in the evening.
At the „Al Qalaa“ you get all kinds of traditional food, which you should try by all means.
The deluxe resort Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort in the middle of the Saiq Mountains is surely a highlight for connoisseurs, but not a final stop, for Oman has much more to offer. Hence, it is recommendable to plan a longer trip for getting to know the different aspects of the country. The second part of our trip takes us from the massive mountain landscape directly to the sea in the South.
Phew, was the winter long here in Berlin. But as soon as April arrived the good weather has kicked in. So far no notice of the moody April. Like we say in German ‘April does what it wants’. The longer the winter held on the less I wanted to bother you with my winter looks. Here comes the first sign of spring with this colorful bouclé jacket from More & More combined to these cool jeans with side stripes. I’m a huge fan of such jeans right now because they’re perfect to spice my daily jeans looks up a little.
How do you like the look?
