Smooth legs for the summer!

Advertisement. Sponsored video by Braun.
Wow – I haven’t shaved in more than a year! But no, I’m not going back to the roots and let my hair grow just like it was modern in the 80s. I simply rediscovered my good old epilator. I’ve been getting annoyed about tiny growing hairs for years. Obviously, shaving is very fast, but why do it every day when we can have some peace for a few weeks?

Braun Silk-épil 9 SkinSpa _ red off the shoulder dress

For years, I’ve been going to my cosmetician for waxing. At some point, I asked myself how much money I spent and will spend in the future and was shocked. I could’ve gone on a nice vacation every year with the money I used to spend on cosmetician appointments. It was high time something changed! I started doing the treatment by myself. I remember buying my first epilator when I was 15 – a previous model of the Braun Silk-épil 9 SkinSpa. I showed you the Braun Silk-épil 9 SkinSpa last year. I’m still super happy with it. It is a handy epilator and the treatment is fast. It already removes hairs of 0,5mm. You need longer hair for waxing.

  • Tip 1: In order to avoid ingrown hair I can recommend you only one thing: Peeling! Peeling! Peeling! Surely, your cosmetician already told you, but it’s really helpful. Amandine gave me the recipe for a peeling mixture consisting of brown sugar, olive oil and some honey. This is really a good peeling and I use it often. I’m using a classical peeling glove now, which is as good as the peeling.
  • Tipp 2: Shower cold! As I already told you, I love to shower cold. The shower at home is really cold and stimulates blood circulation. My personal Must-Do in the summer!

My favorite photo apps with #o2live

Advertisement. In collaboration with o2!

The new o2 Live Store has finally opened at Marienplatz in Munich. They’ve invited Laura from  and moi to their opening. We both held workshops about “Travel photography: tips for good travel pictures” and “the best photo-apps”. For those of you who couldn’t attend the event, I’ll give a little insight with this post and recommend my favourite photo editing apps.

 www.thegoldenbun.com | best photo apps, #o2live, o2

the best PHOTO APPS

Canon Camera Connect. What would I do without the Canon App? My Canon 6d has wifi. Therefore, I can easily connect to my camera and download the pictures.
 /

VSCO. VSCO Cam has definitely the best filter! I usually edit my pictures with the A6 or C9 filtre. In addition, you can easily optimise your pictures. The app often offers a free filter collection. Therefore, watch out for that!
 /

Meitu. If you want to brighten up your pictures, Meitu pic can easily do that. Just choose ‘beautify’ > choose your picture > select ‘skin’ > turn down ‘whiten’ and voilà – your picture is all bright with a lot of contrast.
 /

Mosaico. I use this app to plan my instagram-feed. You can array your pictures, write the captions and will be notified to post. Alternatives for Mosaico are ,  and Latergram.me.

Boomerang for Instagram. Who doesn’t love it? Boomerangs are always fun to watch. You can use Boomerang in your Insta-Stories or you simply download the app.
 /

Printic. Printic is a cool photo service where you can order cool Printic-photo boxes. Perfect for everyone who loves polaroids. The boxes are quite reasonable and the quality is great. They often offer discounted specials, which I use a lot.
 /

Slow Shutter. Long exposure is also possible with your phone! Some mobile phones already have the function integrated in their camera. Yet it isn’t possible with the iPhone. Therefore, I use the app Slow Shutter. It’s a cool app for water pictures. But you better use tripod!
 /

Adobe Photoshop Express. Sometimes, I need to edit a picture quickly. PS Express is great for that as it has the ‘magic wand’ tool, which optimises your picture automatically. Furthermore, the app has all features you’ll need for editing pictures.
 /

Here you’ll find a couple of impressions of the new o2 Live Store at Marienplatz: spacious, interactive with great features. The shop also offers free WIFI, you can attend smartphone workshops and enjoy coffee or any other drink. Moreover, they have a cool charging station, where you can plug your phone, lock it in and meanwhile go shopping relaxed.

  • Ps.: I’m a long time client of o2 and had a way too expensive contract – 5GB data and all inclusive for about 40€. Right now they have a great 15 years jubilee offer with 15GB data and all inclusive for 30€! I’d gotten it immediately and also got the activation fees for free. Given the fact that I travel a lot, I use up my 5GB very quickly. Therefore, the contract is perfect for anyone, who works on-the-go.
  • Pps: You can win a trip to Barcelona and Beats Pill. Just post your best vacation picture on Instagram using the hashtag #o2live. With lots of luck you’ll be traveling to one of my favorite cities!

Greece’s hidden gem: Karpathos
what to visit, beaches, hotels and more!

I’m terribly sorry for my last ironic post. Karpathos is one of the dreamiest islands I’ve ever been to. There’s everything you’ll need for the perfect summer holiday – most beautiful bays, cool sport activities, relaxed and oh so friendly people, enchanting villages (especially Olympus in the dawn, a sundowner in Arkassa, long nights in Pigadia…). Here’s a more detailed guide to Karpathos! And yes, point four of my 10 things I hate about Karpathos post is true! Amandine and I will fly back in autumn to look for some land. Why not?

So let’s do this! Everything you’ll need to know about Karpathos!

www.thegoldenbun.com | visit Karpathos, what to do on Karpathos, karpathos beaches

How to get there

We flew with Aegean Airlines directly from Athens to Karpathos and then via Athens back to Munich. For my South Tyrolean readers, there are also direct flights from Verona, which is amazing.

Best time to go there

We visited Karpathos in the beginning of June, which was perfect. The beaches were still calm. Locals told us that the best time would be in October and November, when all the tourists will have gone. The weather is still nice and warm.

How to get around!

To rent a scooter or car is always the best idea on Greek islands. We rented our car from Euromoto Karpathos and it was just amazing to explore the island by car. If you book early, you’ll definitely get a great deal. Usually, rates for renting a car are around 35€ on-site.

Where to eat

Isn’t Greek food delicious everywhere? Still, there are enough tourist traps all over the islands. We were so lucky to be brought to some insider tips around the island.

Overview of Karpathos villages

THE NORTH

In my opinion it is absolutely worth driving all the way up to the north – you’ll drive past traditional villages, pine-grove fields, rocky landscape. Although you might need some patience to take the curvy streets all the way up north. For me, it was a lot of fun to drive though!

Olympos: one of my favourite villages with enchanting sunsets, windmills on the cliffs and great local food.

Diafani: is located in the north and has the second most important port of Karpathos.

Sarìa: a beautiful island in the north of Karpathos, where I highly recommend taking a bout tour to.

Here are a couple of impressions from Olympos:

THE MIDDLE

The middle part is perfect for a little roadtrip from the south.

Menetes: small village on the rocky hills, which is famous for traditional music and authentic architecture

Lefkos: in the region around Lefkos, there are a lot of sandy small coves and clear blue water

Mesochori: the amphitheatric village is situated on rocky hills. You’ll find a lot of small paths leading through the white houses along small chapels. ≻ Walk down to the Virgin Mary church and have a coffee at the local café Dramountana.

Karpathos beaches

Karpathos has over 180 beaches, but still there are so many which haven’t been discovered yet. These were the beaches we visited, which I highly recommend.

  • Amoopi
  • Lefkos
  • Apella
  • Kyra Panagia

THE SOUTH

The south has a lot to offer be it for sports activities, restaurants and going out.

Pigadia: the main city of the island, which is always busy. Lots of lovely restaurants and shopping streets. The port is very beautiful and, especially in the morning, it is nice and calm.

South-EastAmoopi, Kastelia…: I loved the flair around Amoopi. A little hidden gem is Kastelia, where we went diving for the first time. Such a cute little bay.

Arkassa: cute little town with lots of restaurants. I highly recommend having drinks at Stema bar – absolutely the coolest bar in town!

Amopi: a beautiful tourist resort with breathtaking bays and hip cafés and restaurants.

Best places to stay

We stayed two nights at the beautiful Sitarena Cottage up in the mountains of Menetes. Our guides from Karpathos didn’t understand why we wanted to sleep up there. It was absolutely in the middle of nowhere, which we loved so much. After some blustering days in Athens, the calm was perfect.

Sport activities

All first timers on the island!

We went diving for the first time with Dino & Renate of the Karpathos Diving Center. They’re both so lovely! We dove in the beautiful bay of Kastelia. I must say that I’m a little bit afraid to stay too deep underwater but our instructors took all the fear away. They patiently guided us through the beautiful underwater life. Karpathos has a lot more beautiful bays to discover.

Tip: if you’re not into diving, but still want to see the underwater life, you can take a tour with the glass bottom boat in Pigadia. It costs 10€ and was absolutely worth it!

Moreover, I wanted to try windsurfing after such a long time and we took a beginner course at the ION Club Karpathos. Also, I highly recommend the 3 hours sunset bike tour with the club. We drove all the way up the hills and down to Arkassa for a cold beer and then back to the bay. Absolutely beautiful! It feels so good to do some sport on your holiday! We could’ve also tried kite surfing, but the last days weren’t so windy.

Restaurants to try on Karpathos

I’m probably the biggest fan of Greek food on earth. Are you with me? When I’d moved to Munich, I was so happy that there were so many Greek restaurants. Unfortunately, they only serve standard dishes from Greece, but the more you visit Greece and discover different parts, the more specialties you will get to know and love. Just like on Karpathos, where they served delicious Karpathian cheese, a local goat cheese. And, they are very proud of their Makarounes topped with onions.

Here are a few great restaurant/bar recommendations for Karpathos!

Taverna avlona
Avlona

On our first day, we headed up north to see the traditional handcraft and work in the fields. We stopped in Avlona for a little snack at Taverna Avlona. The owner served us some delicious artichokes with a kind of omelette together with a local vegetable. I’m a big fan of artichokes and the combination with the egg and the local bread was fantastic.

Restaurant Drosia
Olympos

In the evening, we visited Olympos, which I’ve already swooned about in my last articles. You’ll find Restaurant Drosia at the beginning of the town. They serve typical food from the region. All locally produced! The Karpathian cheese was very good. We had fried zucchini, Tsatziki, delicious goat meat and their famous Makarounes, which we’ve tried for the first time. Of course, as a sweet final you’ll have to try the Greek Loucoumades.

When we did a little roadtrip through the middle and eastern part of Karpathos, we stopped at 3Dolphins Restaurant in Lefkos. Sometimes, all we craved was a hefty Gyros plate. We enjoyed it along with two latte macchiato freddos. Amazing!

RESTAURANT Kipos
Arkasa

I highly recommend heading for a sundowner and dinner to Arkasa. A cute town on the south-eastern part. We had our last supper with our Karpathos guides at Kipos Restaurant. You should definitely try the ‘Koukia‘, which are yellow split beans, also called fava beans, grown in the north of Karpathos. The octopus was delicious too. I loved the atmosphere, which was a little bit more chic, yet authentic Greek.

Arkassa

For one last time we went to Stema Bar again. We’d already stopped there during our bicycle tour for a cold beer – fantastic! The bar is super laid down and relaxed. They love to play reggae music and the owner himself is just a character. The cocktails are great, the people nice – what else do you need?

Beauty Talk | Wisdom Teeth Removal Munich

Advertisement / Anzeige*

Some of you are certainly still in store for a wisdom tooth operation. If you are lucky, you may keep your wisdom teeth or they have already been extracted. In the beginning, I thought a wisdom tooth operation would be harmless and I would easily cope with it. But in the end, it was a more important intervention than I had expected. Here more about it.

weisheitszahn op münchen www.thegoldenbun.com

Actually, it was not absolutely necessary to have my wisdom teeth immediately removed. However, I wanted to avoid a painful inflammation and decided to have them extracted before summer. Many orthodontists do not extract wisdom teeth in the summer, unless it is an urgent case. I got my wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. med. dent. Andreas Detsch at Dr. Dannemann‘s Dental clinic.

At my first appointment, Dr. Detsch informed me in detail about the operation, its possible complications and potential aftereffects. My teeth were well positioned and had already penetrated, so the intervention should not last long. The following Monday, I was operated at about lunchtime. When the time for the intervention arrived, I was more nervous than expected and I trembled. The anesthetic shot is supposedly the most painful one. I got a preliminary anesthesia, thanks to which I scarcely felt the actual shot. Ultimately, all four wisdom teeth were operated within thirty minutes. It is a matter of taste, whether you wish or not to notice everything. The studio offers also a kind of general anesthesia, which I refused. Thus, I could feel the pressure and could follow what instruments were used for the operation. But don’t worry, it is not as bad as that. In the end, my wounds were sewn and I could go home. A subsequent check the next day and a week later the filaments were extracted. The healing would take up to six weeks.

Cost of wisdom tooth operation

In case of local anesthesia, the cost is borne by the insurance company in Germany, whereas general anesthesia and other extras have to be paid by the patient. A general anesthesia is really only required for complicated cases. General anesthesia decelerates the healing process and you should be aware of the probability not to wake up anymore.

Aftereffects

The intervention was more important than I had imagined. Compared to the aftereffects, the operation was like walking in the park. The first two days I cooled both cheeks thoroughly and had almost no swellings. Only the left cheek was a little swollen. I had seen much bigger swellings in the clinic.

Drugged up to the eyeballs with Ibuprofen and Novalgin drops, I had almost no pains. However,  I never slept through without pains the first week. Without cooling, I could not fall asleep. Due to the strait in my jawbone, it was also difficult to thoroughly clean the wound in the lower jaw and I was afraid of an inflammation, which, fortunately, did not happen…

What to eat after a wisdom tooth operation

Eating was really a challenge for me, since I am a passionate gourmet, as you know. No milk products, no fruit, except bananas, only boiled tomatoes and so on. Because of the operation, you can’t open your jaws widely and, thus, I had to nourish only on smoothies.

After some days, I tried to eat normally, but had to use time and again the pureeing tool. I ate everything cold and mainly dishes I could swallow without chewing and which did not get bogged in the wounds. Just at that time, my mixer broke, and I was glad, when the new Vitamix Mixer finally arrived.

Those were the dishes I ate:

  • Breakfast
    • Avocado – Banana – Oatflakes Smoothie
    • Scrambled eggs (optionally with minced salmon ) – Mind the pepper
    • Soy-yogurt with oatflakes
  • Lunch and Dinner
    • Small soft noodles with wild garlic pesto
    • Small pureed noodles with minced meat
    • Mashed potatoes with Avocado
    • Well pureed cold Pepperonata from the day before
    • Babyfood (so unsalted – how can babies eat that?)
    • Ravioli

 Pastime

The first four days were really horrible, as I was not in the mood to do anything. Unfortunately, I was too weak to leave my home for a walk, as I felt that throbbing at every step. Hence, I better stayed at home. I watched almost all series of Night out with the Chefs of Munchies You Tube Channel. Yes, I tortured myself a bit and watched video clips about food and good dishes.

Conclusion

I am so glad that I had all four teethes extracted at the same time. Despite the slow healing process, which may vary from person to person, I recommend having all four teethes extracted at the same time, and, I can warmly commend the Dr. Dannemann clinic to you.

I wish you a wonderful day!
