On James Bond’s trails and a gourmet lunch at ice Q

unpaid Advertisement / unbezahlte Anzeige*. Upon invitation of iceQ – thank you!

On James Bond’s trails. Luckily, the weather cleared up beautifully on our last day. It was the perfect weather to drive up to the Gaislachkogl and the famous ice Q at 3054 meters of altitude. I’ve already given you a little preview in the last outfit post. Now in full length!

up to the ice Q – cable car or hike?

There are several ways to get up to the ice Q – you can either choose the comfortable cable car or hike all the way up. In Soelden there are countless hiking trails, easy and difficult ones. An easy way to get up would be a hike up to the middle station and then take the Gaislachkoglbahn all the way up. The hard version would be the way from the middle station up to the Gaislachkogl – around 1000 meters of altitude up.

At Das Central they’d recommended to take the cable car from the middle station up to the ice Q for sure, because the view is pretty spectacular. Therefore we decided to take the cable car all the way up from Soelden and then hike down. The view was indeed amazing!

On James Bond’s trails & building in extreme situation

James Bond Spectre was filmed up here. Consequently it’s one of the attractions in the Oetztal. Many visitors come up here every day. The futuristic and innovative ice Q was designed by the Innsbruck architect Johann Obermoser. It wasn’t the easiest construction since it was built a frozen moving ground at 3058 meters above sea level. In addition, it required a high thermal insulation for the extreme temperatures in winter. Architecture in extreme situation has succeeded here.

Gourmet Lunch At the ice Q– a dream for alpine gourmets!

A lunch at ice Q was clearly one of the highlights of the weekend. When entering the building you’ll pass the cellar of their Pinot 3000 wine (I’ve told you more about here) until you’ll get to the big restaurant area. Outside there is a beautiful south-side orientated terrace where already a couple sun seekers where sizzling. Upstairs there is a lounge and the roof of the building acts as a viewing platform, which is connects via a suspension bridge with the summit of the Gaislachkogl. The view up there is beautiful and you’ll have a great panorama on several glacier regions in Tyrol – Pitztal, Ötztal, Stubai, Zillertal. Especially in winter time it must be beautiful up here when it’s all white. I’ve already seen some beautiful impressions their website.

From our table we had a dreamlike panoramic view, especially on the Gaislachkogler lake in heart shape. At 3058 meters you’ll be pampered culinary either in ice Q restaurant or ice Q Bistro.

We’d booked a 3-course gourmet menu beforehand, but the bistro menu also looked very tempting. At our neighbour table the ice Q brioche burger with fries and truffels mayonaise (16 €) was serve, which looked amazing.

Prices in Bistro

Soups 8 € | Salads from 8-17 € | Main dishes 12-20 € | Desserts are 5-9 €

Our Gourmet Lunch was a dream:

  • Two sorts of Oetztal valley gray cattle tartare or stained salmon trout
  • Braised turbot crustacean froth or gratinated saddle of veal cheek
  • Lemon and almond cake

The dishes were indeed a piece of art and way to beautiful to eat. I chose the meat option while the other took the fish one. Both menu options were delicious. The fish one was definitely our favourite. I warmly recommend a gourmet lunch on top of the mountain!

Prices of the menu

3 course menu 42 € | 4 course dinner € 48

Climb-down from the ice Q – marmots in sight!

Anyone who thinks that hiking downhill is more convenient is absolutely wrong. My knees and butt thanked me a few days later. The climb-down to the central station was very nice and we passed the Gaislachkogler See, which was in its most beautiful heart shape halfway.

Italian all over. On our last day in Sölden the weather cleared up and we drove up to the Gaiskogel, where the famous iceQ is located. I’m sure you’ll know the location from the last James Bond movie. In wintertime it must be so beautiful up here. Of course, I couldn’t resist taking some outfit pictures on top of 3048 meters above sea level. The clouds moved fast and impressive. The blue sky was simply amazing. Luckily I’d brought my warm summer Duvetica jacket with me because up in the mountains it was a little freezy. And yes – this outfit is all over Italian. Italian jacket brand, sunglasses brand and shoe brand. However, I had to change my Hogans into more comfortable and secure hiking shoes. Of course, more pictures from our lunch at the iceQ and hike will follow.

Wish you a wonderful day!

Mother-daughter weekend at Das Central –  5* luxury hotel Tirol

Das Central. What a luck that Bavaria has so many public holidays. I hope you enjoyed this last one. Over the whole extended weekend weather was just beautiful. As I had skipped any work during the antecedent weekend, I spent these three free days working on my master thesis. Time is running out so quickly. But I won’t think of it now, as I am indulging in my memories of the marvelous mother-daughter-weekend at Sölden..

Ever since I live in Munich I see my mummy rather rarely. A common weekend was precisely what both of us needed. Escaping from the stressful daily grind for a few days: spa treatments, hiking, enjoying pleasurable meals and chatting about many things… Hence the invitation to the Das Central in Sölden came just at the right time, and there we could meet halfway.

How to get there Luxushotel Tirol

From Bozen, South Tyrol it is roughly a two-hours-drive via the Timmelsjoch into the Ötztal.
From Munich you arrive there leisurely within three hours either via Garmisch or the Tegernsee.

Das Central included service

When arriving at Das Central in Sölden we received a cordial welcome. The nice lady at the reception showed us around the hotel and spent much time with us explaining hiking routes. But more about these in a separate post.
The Ötztal Premium Card is included in the hotel price and offers many free services of cable cars and public busses. Moreover many more services are included, such as a free three hour admission to the Aqua Dome, free admission to the Huben Funpark and to the Ötzi-Dorf, the Heimatmuseum, the Längenfeld & Turmmuseum Oetz and many services more. Unfortunately the weather was not too good that day, so that we spent most of the time exploring the vast spa area.

Das Central The spa

After a stressful week a spa afternoon was just the right thing for me. My mummy suffered from slight lumbago pains, which disappeared after some sauna tours. In the afternoon a sauna infusion is arranged every hour and we participated in some of them.

Das Central has a huge spa area spread over four levels, which have a Venetian water landscape as common topic. On the lowest level you find ten different saunas, steam baths, a salt and an ice grotto, Kneipp basins, a whirlpool, and what not. Between the sauna tours we chilled in the Asia relaxation room, where we were almost alone. The waterbeds were a dream. In the evening the guests returned by and by from their hiking tours and the pa area got more and more crowded. On the upper level there is a big indoor pool with bar area. On the top level you find a family sauna and a sunbathing area viewing the Ötztal Mountains. In the winter it must be a perfect dream here.

Mami: Pure relaxation in the wellness oasis. Especially the sauna area was great with different sauna infusions –I highly recommend Karl’s salt-, chocolate/honey infusion!

Das Central The family suite

Our Family suite was a dream, as it was just freshly refurbished. This luxurious hotel has tastefully arranged new rooms, where full care has been given to every detail. The suite consists of two spacious rooms each of them with its own bathroom. The parent’s room had a separate bath area, whereas the children’s room had an open bath area. The stylish washbasins by Antonio Lupi are eye-catching (although not the most practical ones). The most important thing, however, is the bed and this was very comfortable. In fact, it was so cozy that I had a two hour after-lunch sleep Saturday afternoon.

Just a little remark: the internet connection in the suite was really slow and I had to reconnect my phone sometime. But I didn’t care a lot as it was a weekend of relaxation.

Das Central The Presidential Suite

The hotel management permitted us a glance into the 205 m2 Presidential Suite, which is always an interesting experience. This suite had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room with an open fireside reaching the ceiling, a reading corner with office equipment, a dining room for up to eight persons, a kitchenette, a wine refrigerator with the best drops from all over the world, and a private spa with Finnish sauna, steam bath, fitness room, whirlpool and a 30 square meter panorama roof terrace viewing the Ötztal Mountains. There exists also the possibility to book a private cook during the stay.

Das Central Haute Cuisine

The beauty about wellness hotels is the comfort to return from a mountain hike in the late afternoon and get a regalement immediately. In Das Central you get a generous snack from 16:00 to 18:00 hours, when you may pick from abundant cake, soup and cold cuts buffets.

In the evening you have the embarrassment of the choice amongst:

  • a three course bonnet menu at the Restaurant Feinspitz
  • an à La Carte menu in the ethnic Ötztaler Stube
  • or a fondue evening in the Weinkeller

Whilst talking about wines: the hotel has been distinguished as Austria’s best wine hotel 2016. Cordial congratulations on that achievement! Their own wine creation Pinot 3000 is also unique. Two small barrique kegs containing the best Pino Noir of three defendant wineries from Austria, Germany and Italy are ice Q stored at 3048 m on the Gaiskogel. On the first evening we immediately treated ourselves with two glasses of this famous Pinot 3000 – it was really delicious.

Mami: After a hike/wellness day we enjoyed a great dinner in the cozy hotel restaurant. There’s a great choice of fish and meat dishes, whilst the vegetarian choice was tempting too.

The bonnet menu was excellent. It consisted of a choice of a meat or a fish or a vegetarian/Vegan dish. The kitchen prefers regional products and serves the best products of the Alps.

The bar area has been recently refurbished in a very modern style. The adjacent lounge is comfortable and entices you to having a nightcap after dinner.

Mami: A hotel for a all round wellbeing – beautiful design and a succeeded combination of new and old.

We definitely had a great mother-daughter weekend in Das Central. Hopefully there will be a next time in winter – I’m excited!

Lisbon Food Guide – 5 restaurants & bars to try

Lisbon Food Guide
unpaid Advertisement / unbezahlte Anzeige*

Lisbon Food Guide. To conclude my Lisbon posts I’m finally sharing a couple of great restaurants with you that we’ve tried. Usually I’m researching restaurants weeks before but this time I didn’t have much time. Gladly, I can always rely on other blogger. In fact, the girls of Teetharejade are true Lisbon experts and there are plenty of recommendations online. Moreover, a friend of mine had lived there for a bit and gave me some great spots. But I also discovered some on my own.

Lisbon Food Guide | Sundowner at PARK

Let’s start with probably the coolest terrace in town. PARK rooftop & bar is on the fifth floor of a parking, which is located in Calcada to Combro. Not quite easy to find from outside but just enter, get into the elevator and drive up to the upper floor. As soon as you get on the top you’ll enter a little rooftop jungle. There are a lot of greens, wooden tables and a relaxed atmosphere. We started off with fresh beers and ended up with Sangria and I had to try the burger, which was great. To enjoy the sunset I recommend to come a bit earlier and we got there around 5-6pm and stayed until 9pm. Unfortunately, it was super windy every night so make sure to wring warm clothing.

Lisbon Food Guide | Dinner at Sol e Pesca

On our first night we found the cute Sol E Pesca by chance. Afterwards I’ve seen that it was also recommended on Tripadvisor. The restaurant itself serves only canned food. I wasn’t really in the mood that night (especially because I was super cold and I didn’t know that Lisbon was so freezy by night – first night fail) and we kept making fun of our food out of cans. But it was really good. All around Lisbon you’ll find amazing canned fish or else. For a cosy night out it’s a really lovely spot.

Lisbon Food Guide | Dinner at taberna da rua das flores

Let’s now talk about my favourite restaurant the amazing Taberna Rua Das Flores. Apparently there are a couple of similar restaurants around Lisbon in the same style meaning amazing food in a cozy atmosphere. We came here super late and had to wait for an hour to get a table. In the meantime we had some drinks elsewhere. The service was super friendly and being a group of five we ordered us through the menu. One delicious dish after the other followed. We had such a good red wine (try the one on the picture). So far, this restaurant is my favourite.

Of course, I forgot my camera at home that night so please excuse the poor iPhone pics.

Lisbon Food Guide | Lunch at Mercado da Ribeira

Being such a fan of foodmarkets I couldn’t miss paying the Mercado da Ribeira a visit. The market is a project by Time Out and they’ve put together some of the best restaurants of Lisbon in one place. It’s not a fast food market and all meals are prepared freshly. Therefore, count a little bit more time in.

Lisbon Food Guide | Dinner at Café da Garagem

Last but not least one more great spot for a chilly night. Located in the Teatro da Garagem you’ll find the Café da Garagem in the lower floor. This is definitely an insider and even though I’ve read about it on a lot of blogs it wasn’t crowded at all. The interior is great and you’ll have a great view on Lisbon illuminated houses. The food is good and cheap and they have various platters to share. The wine could be better but we’ve had a great night.

Travel Vlog #1 | Lisbon

EN
Lisbon Travel Video. I love to film! So why haven’t I uploaded more films up here? The whole reason is that I always cut the films with music that was forbidden on Youtube. I’ve been cutting my Bali travel video for over two years now. Same with our Switzerland vlogs that I’ve redone over and over again. Yes, I just wanted to have cool music in my videos and not the usual pling-pling-free-music. In the end, I chose a couple of songs I liked from the Youtube audiolibrary and have published already two videos in the past weeks. By the way, my video from China from three years ago needs to be cut too. Anyway, today I show you my travel video from Lisbon.

have fun watching!
