I’m sure you remember Finch from American Pie. Just as he prefers to do his business at home, so was skiing until a few years ago. Yes, I would call myself a “skiing home shit”. But then I realized that the ski resort horizon is a lot further than the Brenner Pass in South Tyrol. Well, the Austrians have unfortunately also very horny ski areas. That’s exactly why you shouldn’t miss a ski holiday in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area this season, or next season at the latest.
#1 A looot of slopes for experts (… and huge children’s ski paradise!)
Ok, this shouldn’t discourage beginners/advanced skiers, because the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area also has a very wide range of blue slopes and a huge children’s paradise to learn to ski. The slopes are really beautiful. The mountain railways lead up to the highest point at 2828 metres above sea level at Masnerkopf.
In the morning I recommend either the slopes from the mountain station of the Schönjochbahn down to the Zirbenhütte or to the valley station of the Schöngampalm. Or the pistes at the Pezid- or Masnerkopfbahn.
SKi area Serfaus-FIss-Ladis
214 km of slopes driven
162 measured kilometres of slopes
47 km blue/light (21.96 %)
123 km red/medium heavy (57.48 %)
28 km black/heavy (13,08 %)
16 km routes (7,48 %)
- You can find an overview of the slopes here!
- You can find out about ski pass prices and more here!
WHEre FOr lunch?
For lunch I can highly recommend the Frommes Alp as well as the Zirbenhütte. The huts are both very tasty. The Self-Service Restaurant Panoramarestaurant BergDiamant is located at the mountain station of the Schönjoch cable car. Usually self-service restaurants in ski resorts are cheaper and ski holidays can be quite expensive. All restaurants have a beautiful sun terrace.
Après Ski?
For après-ski you can go to the Weiberkessel at the Sonnenbahn in Ladis or to the Hexenalm in Serfaus.
First track in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area
The “First Trail” in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is always offered on Wednesdays (timely registration is required!). The managing directors of the mountain railways or the ski school directors accompany the “Erste Spur”. This way you get great insider information about the ski area at first hand.
Unfortunately that morning was totally overcast. Otherwise it would have been a “hell of a fun”. Around 9:30 a.m., one stops at the Zirbenhütte, where breakfast can be had for the first time. Thus the ski day can become only still better.
- The price of € 78.00 per person (valid ski pass required) includes the guided tour and the exclusive mountain breakfast in the Zirbenhütte in Fiss as well as in the Ski Lounge in Serfaus.
#2 SNOW-HIKE when moderate weather
After three days of skiing I am just physically at the end. A guided snowshoe hike is just the thing to get out for a few hours. Our snow guide Johannes led us from the middle station of the Schönjochbahn (Steinegg 1920m) to the Frommes Alp. A highlight was the game enclosure – the photos speak for themselves. I advise you to make such a tour only with an expert and avalanche equipment. The carrying of an avalanche beeper etc. is obligatory anyway, even if you go freeriding.
- The guided snowshoe hike can be booked through the ski school at the valley station of the Schönjoch cable car in Ladis.
#3 ICE STOCKS SHOING at Karl am Lader Schlossweiher
With a lot of enthusiasm Karl has the Lader Schlossweiher snowed every winter by the fire brigade. The boys arrive punctually at 19:00 o’clock and Karl checks their work very carefully. Before that we played a game of curling that I hadn’t done for ages. We women against the men. Well guess who has won…
Afterwards there was a delicious mulled wine at the campfire. Just the right thing to warm up!
#4 SUNSET-DINNER at Monte Mare Restaurant and snowcat transfer from Elmar
How could we have ended our skiing day better than with a Sunset Dinner in the Monte Mare Restaurant of the Masner Area. Get out of your ski boots and into your house shoes (the bad thing is only afterwards when you have to get back into your ski boots for the return trip).
- A sunset dinner for adults costs 108€ including Masner-Express transfer. Comfortable arrival from 16:00, dinner and transfer at 20:30 to the valley station in Serfaus, including hotel transfer.
#5 Fun for young and old on the „SERFAUSER SAUSER“
There’s a child in every adult. In Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis you will find the “Serfauser Sauser”, a four-part Zip-Line, as well as the “Fisser Flieger & Skyswing”. The latter is not for the faint hearted!
The highest point of the Serfauser Sauser is 85 meters high. I just managed to overcome my fear of heights. It was not so bad at all… And so one darts over the heads of the skiers over the ski slope. Quite cool!
Where to stay?
Our cheerful travel group stayed at the Alpine Hotel Resort Goies****S in Ladis, which I highly recommend to you. The Adults-Only Hotel offers enough relaxation after skiing in one of the two spa areas. My favourite was the panorama sauna with a view of the mountains. Here you can book a half board so that you don’t have to leave the hotel in the evening. Afterwards, the spacious bar invites to have a drink.
Many thanks for reading and I hope the tips were helpful for you!
I am used to go skiing in the Italian alps but this location looks equally amazing!
