#MQSommerOpening – 48h Vienna

[Advertisement*] in collaboration with Werbung Österreich & MuseumsQuartier

As you may have known from Social Media, I spent last weekend in Vienna. Some weeks ago I received an invitation to sample the Vienna MuseumsQuartier for 48 hours. I was immediately red-hot, as I’ve been bitten in the back by museums. Unfortunately, I have too little time for visiting exhibitions. Irina got permission accompanying me and both of us were eagerly looking forward to the #MQSummerOpening. My last visit to Vienna dated more than one year back. Unfortunately, we did not make it last year to visit the MuseumsQuartier.

Our arrival was brightened by the most wonderful summer weather enhancing our good mood to the top. The MQSummerOpening offered a choice of guided tours followed by live concerts in the evening. The weather was super. Rain sadly spoilt this event last year. What luck did we have this year!

Here a short video of the atmosphere:

48 hours MUSEUMSQUARTIER WIEN

We visited the MuseumQuartier Wien right in the early afternoon. I immediately fell in love with the beautiful and well-equipped Museum area – modern architecture inside framed by classical architecture outside. The various passages/entrances led to three different courtyards, being interconnected amongst them.

“The atmosphere here is completely different!”

There is also a museum quarter in Munich, but the atmosphere is by far not as good as in MQ Vienna. When events are organised, then only at the Königsplatz. Although many other squares are wonderful, they are very rarely used. What a difference in Vienna! The Hauptplatz constitutes a beautiful centre, which got crowded already upon our arrival. In the huge water basin, the AQUADROME, boat races took place. In the forecourt, they played miniature golf and inaugurated a boule alley.

MuseumsQuartier Wien #MQSOMMEROPENING

We had several guided tours on our program, which I had picked in advance. Guided tours are always super for knowing the individual museums and obtaining more information on the exhibitions.

Regrettably, time was too short for covering all guided tours. The first day we visited the following exhibitions, which I can highly recommend to you:

  • „SUBTEXT: TYPEDESIGN. gegenwärtig – lokal: contemporary – Austrian“ at designforum Vienna
  • „a_schau. Austrian architecture in the 20th and 21st centuries“ at Architekturzentrum Wien

The concerts started around 6pm and the main square was so packed. We could get up the terrace and enjoyed the last sun rays from there. We let the evening fade away with a cozy dinner in the garden of Glacis Beisl. Luckily, our hotel wasn’t far away. In fact, the hip 25hours Hotel MuseumsQuartier is only a five minutes walk distance.

Museumsquartier Wien On LEOPOLD MUSEUM’S TERRACE

Luckily, we had one more day to explore Vienna. Leopold Museum first. The museum is not only architectonically my favorite but also the exhibitions were great. The museum has the biggest Egon Schiele collection. In the lower floors you’ll find works from Erwin Wurm, whose humor is so great. Moreover, I absolutely love the pictures from Carl Spitzweg. Not for no reason the exhibition is called: “CARL SPITZWEG – ERWIN WURM: Köstlich! Köstlich?” (engl. hilarious). Yes it was hilarious!

One of our highlights was definitely that we were allowed to get up onto the roof of the Leopold Museum. The view was breathtaking!

MuseumsQuartier Wien FEMINISM AT MUMOK

The close by MUMOK museum holds contemporary art. Right now you’ll find an interesting exhibition called „WOMAN. FEMINISTISCHE AVANTGARDE der 1970er-Jahre aus der SAMMLUNG VERBUND“. (engl. “Woman. Feministic avant garde of the 1970s from the SAMMLUNG VERBUND”)

I highly recommend a visit of the MuseumsQuartier when visiting Vienna. The museum area is made for everyone! Hopefully I’ll manage to go to Vienna again this summer. You’ll find great events at the MQ all year round. As a matter of fact, you’ll find me there again for their winter opening!

Restaurants in Munich | Italian dinner at Vinpasa

[unpaid Advertisement / unbezahlte Anzeige*]

I’m not the biggest fan of Italian restaurants in Munich. Most of the times the restaurants are way too overprized. Sometimes all I want to eat is a simple good plate of pasta, which I love to eat at Bar Centrale and at Timballo. I only had a good pizza twice in Munich – at Grano at Jakobsplatz and I love the pizza at Rossopomodoro at EatalyI know, I’m super picky when it comes to Italian food! But since I got a lot of questions regarding Italian restaurants in Munich I continued my search.

It’s been over a year that I lived in Schwabing. Still, I haven’t tried a lot of restaurants in my neighbourhood. I was invited by a good friend to Vinpasa for a special occasion – an upscale restaurant in Isabellastraße.

Italian restaurant Munich VINPASA

The Italian restaurant Vinpasa is divided into two areas: a small bar/bistro in the entrance area and a dining area with around six tables on the mezzanine. The interior is classy and there are some modest pictures on the wall. The light was dimmed and created a cozy atmosphere. Although we went there on a weekday the restaurant was quite crowded. Luckily, we had booked a table.

Italian restaurant Munich Vinpasa – Food & Drinks

The menu is quite small, which is always a plus point for me. For a cozy dinner you can either choose the four or five courses menu (48€/58€) or à la carte. I chose a fantastic swordfish carpaccio and the Strozzapretti with salsiccia ragout. My friend chose the four courses menu. I highly recommend the swordfish carpaccio. The cucumber and capers went so well together with the fish. On the other hand, I wasn’t such a big fan of the Strozzapretti, which didn’t have a lot of sauce. Likewise felt my friend – half of the dishes were really good and the rest of the dishes were okay.

Bolzano but different! On #ExpeditionCityLife with Tatonka

Bolzano but different! Back home I could finally shoot this street style campaign together with Bastian. For those of you who have already been in Bolzano know the pretty old town. But how many of you know the industrial, rough part of it? The South of the city is landmarked by a typical industrial zone. Old walls were enhanced by cool graffitis from well-known artists and amateurs. It’s a long time that the old railway stopped it’s way through this part. Even better for us as we have a great shooting location. It’s been a while that I took pictures here. At the early beginning of this blog we used to shoot here a lot. Part of this campaign is the new TATONKA Daypack Sparrow 19 Women. This cool athleisure look with sporty leggings, supergas and a embroidered top is the perfect match.

Street Style back then

Street style always reminds me of the younger version of me. I’d passed most of my afternoons together with friends on the skateboard park. Who would’ve thought that I’d always been wearing the clunky skater sneakers. I’ve laughed myself to death recently when looking at the old pictures. What did the think? Well, fashion was different back in the days. Luckily, athleisure is en vogue right now, which allows us to wear sporty clothing also during the day.

TATONKA Daypack Sparrow 19 Women

The TATONKA Daypack Sparrow 19 Women became a true travel companion. Backpacks are so much more convenient when traveling. Comfort first! I would never want to wear my heavy camera plus computer in a bag on one shoulder.

Sparrow 19 Women PRACTICAL DESIGN

The daypack has the perfect design and there is nothing to complain about it. The interior is perfectly organized:

  • inside you’ll find a laptop sleeve, where my 13” MacBook fits
  • there’s another side pocket for longer things, i.e. bottles
  • inside you’ll find two more pockets, where I keep all my travel accessories, i.e. sleeping mask, floatable travel pillow
  • moreover there is a handy front pocket with an organizer, upholstered smartphone bag and a key holder (very useful for people like me who loose everything)

wwww.thegoldenbun.com | tatonka daypack rucksack tatonka sparrow pack 19

A huge plus point is that you can open the Tatonka backpack not only from the top but completely all around. This allows me to lie it onto somewhere and see immediately all my stuff. The backpack surprisingly spacious. As you can read I’m very impressed. I have to admit that I wasn’t a big fan of backpacks before. My clunky school bag was quickly exchanged for a cool bag, where I kept all my heavy folders. I would never ever do that again to my shoulders and back!

By the way, the Sparrow 19 is also available in a beautiful red (similar like my Yukon backpack) and in a hip baby blue. I took the more discreet version in titan grey.

Back in my own bed & sneak peek into my new room!

I’m finally back in South Tyrol. I’ve spent the past weeks almost every single night in a different hotel. You can’t imagine how good it feels to sleep in my own bed. Speaking of which I’ve got a couple of impressions of my “bed sit”. Well, the term isn’t that correct as I call it more my temporary base. About a year ago we moved to my mum’s parent’s house and since I was traveling a lot it is still a work in progress. The room has long been my aunt’s room and how it is in most cases it remained in its old state for many years. Consequently the mattresses were extremely old too. The request from Leesa came right on time. The structure is similar as my beloved mattress, which I had to leave in Munich. But the Leesa’s philosophy persuaded me immediately.

Leesa Mattress Philosophy sustainable business model

Emma, Caspar, Bruno, Muun, Leesa? The mattress hype is everywhere. The structure of the diverse mattresses is similar. However, Leesa‘s philosophy helped my decision. The company, which originally comes from the US has a sustainable business model. It started already in 2015 and therefore has a longer company history than other start-ups in Germany. Leesa is a certificated B Corp™-Business1 and accomplishes the highest standards when it comes to social and ecological performance, transparency and responsibility. The company also strives to achieve social and ecological solutions:

  • The mattresses are locally produces, i.e. Leesa’s mattresses for Germany are produced in Thüringen.
  • One-for-ten-programm – when ten mattresses are sold one is donated to an aid agency. Already 10.000 mattresses have been donated! That’s great!
  • Leesa also works with the Arbor Day Foundation, which plants one tree per sold mattress. The target is to plant one million trees until 2025.
  • and much more!

1B Corp is a world-wide network for businesses which aim to do something good. “B” stands for “Benefit”

Leesa Mattress Experience Structure

The mattress is made out of three layers:

  • a Cooling Avena® Foam 5cm – allows air-flow for a cooler night’s sleep
  • Memory Foam 5cm – pressure Relieving
  • support foam 15cm – adds strength, durability and structure

A140cm Leesa mattress costs 615€ and a 180cm Leesa is 775€.

Leesa Mattress Experience Comfort

I’m a huge fan of memory foam mattresses. They are extremely comfortable. You can also lie the mattress directly on the floor or on a wooden construction (palettes). If you want to place it on normal duckboards take a very robust one because the mattress is heavier than normal ones. I love the fact that the cover is nicely made and the color is great.

It’s the perfect mattress for restless sleeper, which causes that we move during the night. That was my case usually. Normally, I sleep lateral position and you recognize immediately if a mattress isn’t comfortable. Did you know that 60% of the people sleep in this recovery position? Up to know I didn’t have any problems and slept really good on my Leesa. After over 100 days on my Leesa mattress I highly recommend it!

Good morning from Vienna!

Advertisement*: this post contains affiliate links

A quick Sunday greeting from Vienna! Our long weekend is coming slowly to an end. Tuesday and Friday were such beautiful days with summerly temperatures. We shot this look super early in the morning even though it was already super hot. However, it got super cold again yesterday and I was lucky that I’ve brought this light down padded Bomboogie jacket. This look is more casual with stylish spring boots from EMU and a hip jeans from Colloseum.

Irina and I spent some very cool days in Vienna. My highlights were definitely the visit of the MuseumsQuartier, which I highly recommend you on our visit. I’m a huge fan of museums! But more within this week. We’ll have breakfast for the last
time now and then I need to jump on the train again!

Enjoy your Sunday!
