Berlin living #2 | My wardrobe organisation

Here comes a long time requested post… my wardrobe organization! When I moved to Berlin I didn’t plan to get a wardrobe at all (the most stupid thought). Instead I tried to fit my clothes on two clothing racks plus in the six drawers under my bed. But as much as I’d love to live more minimalistic it wasn’t possible at all. Especially, in winter I feel like I have the double of my summer pieces. Down padded jackets (which I can’t all store in our entrance) and coats take away so much space. Not to mention sweaters… oh my! But it’s definitely time for a spring cleaning now.

To be honest, I’m not one hundred percent happy with IKEAs quality. However, not knowing how long I’d stay in Berlin it wasn’t the time to invest a lot of money (whereas the PAX system isn’t the cheapest either).
Here’s my Ikea Pax organisation…

IKEA Pax ORGANISATION & PLANNING

First, I got a 50cm + 100cm PAX wardrobe in height 201cm second hand. I thought the lower size wouldn’t look too big. However, the room is quite bright and you would’ve barely noticed the higher one. Of course, 1,5 metres of wardrobe weren’t enough and I added another 50cm wide one with lots of drawers. As much as I love hanging my clothes, drawers are simply the best. I highly recommend the 50 ones as you can organize your stuff a lot better. I used to have the 75 size in my old apartment which is the perfect size in my opinion.

SOME USEFUL TIPS:

  • Buy IKEA stuff second hand! Depending in which state the furniture is you can always get it around 50% cheaper.
  • Roll it up! 1 drawer fits around 6-8 rolled pullover
  • White shirts to the left, dark ones to the right… 1 drawer fits 12-18 basic shirts plus a couple undershirts
  • such a pull-out tray is perfect if you store your shoes in two rows
  • the ‘laundry’ drawer is quite useful if you don’t want to have your dirty laundry lying around
  • your pumps look a lot fancier under a glass shelf
  • fill up the wholes with VARIERA cover caps and make your wardrobe look more expensive

… these are only three out of 60 pairs of high heels I’ve collected. But my summer’s collection had to wait at home. I definitely need to find a solution for all my shoes!

For those who wonder where all my blouses and tops are (and yes, that’s quite a collection) – I’ve got another large clothing rack (which I’ll show you in another post). Blouses and tops are all the same hight and I’ve arranged them by color, which looks super organized.

inspiration ikea pax organisation - wohnen in berlin

Well, that was it. For those of you who’ve thought that I own much more clothes I have to disappoint you. I resell a lot of clothes. Lately I’ve put myself on a little shopping ban too. We’ll see how long that will last for!

Happy Sunday!

6 hours in Napoli – sightseeing & culinary

Napoli – was soll ich dazu sagen.

2. Typisch Neapoletanisches Essen

Restaurant in Berlin | Knödlwirtschaft in Neukölln

‚There are only a few restaurant where I‘d drive 40 minutes through Berlin. Knödlwirtschaft is one of them.‘ Most of my friends agreed to this. I love to get out ot my neighbourhood and drive to Neukölln. Last weekend I‘ve finally made it to the popular Knödlwirtschaft.

  • Beware: the place is always full and you should book in advance!

Restaurant in Berlin
Knödlwirtschaft

The restaurant Knödlwirtschaft is located in deep Neukölln nearby a couple of other great places – Dr. To‘s, Imren Döner, Ä Bar, Nathanja & Heinrich and so on. Restaurants and bars are definitely different than the ones in Mitte. I love their easy, rough, unfinished interior. They‘re charming in their way.

A restaurant where they just serve German/Austrian bread dumplings – Knödl – can only work in Berlin. Imagine that in my hometown in South Tyrol or in Munich. I think that wouldn‘t work for long. The Knödlwirtschaft is always packed!

FOOD & DRINKS

I absolutely love Kasknedl (cheese dumplings) and the ones with spinach. At Knödlwirtschaft they change their dumpling variations once in a while. When we were there they also served dumplings with chard and red cabbage. Both variations were super delicous!

For the sweet tooth there are also changing sweet dumplings like semolina dumplings on the menu. I‘m waiting for summer time when they serve delicious apricot or plum dumplings. So good!

2 dumplings with a salad cost 7€ and each additional one 2€. 2 dumplings are recommended for the small appetite, at least 5 for the big one!

RÉSUMÉ

Overall I absolutely recommend the Knödlwirtschaft. The dumplings are super delicious, the staff over friendly and the atmosphere is super relaxed. I‘ll definitely come back soon!

Tuscany | 5 cute villages to visit in Val D’Orcia valley (+ hotel recommendations)

5 villages to visit in Val D’Orcia. Undoubtedly, Tuscany is a pure Italian dream vacation. I went there already a couple of times and it’s always so nice to be back regardless which season. During our stay at the Posta Marcucci in Bagno Vignoni we took some day tours outside the village and discovered some more beautiful villages.

Here are 5 cute villages in Tuscany which you shouldn’t miss!

5 Villages to visit in Val D’Orcia
BAGNO VIGNONI

Starting off with the village where we stayed at. I’ve mentioned it before but I worked there over the summer ten years ago and came back again six years ago. The cute ancient village is known for its hot springs having a large bath in the centre of the village. The thermal baths date back to the Etruscans and Romans. The thermal bath is not accessible for public any longer. You can book a day pass at the public baths of Albergo Posta Marcucci, stay at the fancy five stars hotel Adler Thermae or enjoy some hours at the public springs which are located at the bottom of the hill. Locals will help you to find it. There’s a cute herbal store as well as one of the cutes book stores right next to the main square.

Val D’Orcia SAN QUIRICO D’ORCIA

San Quirico D’Orcia is the next village next to Bagno Vignoni. We took a relaxed morning walk there. The most beautiful street is the Via Poliziano. Take a stroll through this relaxing cities. There are lots of beautiful sights, e.g. the Horti Leonini, which is a beautiful Italian garden.

Val D’Orcia PIENZA

Unfortunately we caught the worst weather ever while in Pienza. Snow in Tuscany is so rare. On the other hand, also beautiful to discover it that way. Always looking at the bright sight. In Pienza you should visit the beautiful Duomo of Pienza. Moreover, have a stroll through the Piccolomini gardens and visit the Palazzo Vescovile.

MONTERIGGIONI

Ok, I’ve just realised that Monteriggioni isn’t located in Val D’Orcia. However, it’s such a cute village to visit. Monteriggioni is famous for its city walls which you can have a walk around and enjoy the view on the wide Tuscan landscape.

Hot springs in Tuscany | Albergo Posta Marcucci

Hot springs in Tuscany. Tuscany is always worth a trip – regardless which season. The Val D’Orcia valley is still a secret spot in Tuscany – the cute villages, breathtaking hilly landscape and the beautiful cypress alleys. Down the memory lane for me! In fact, I worked ten years ago in the popular Bagno Vignoni. Popular for what? The hot springs of course!

Bagno Vignoni is a super small village. The heart of it marks the famous hot springs, which among other supplies the baths of Albergo Posta Marcucci with its healing thermal waters. In fact, the pool area of the hotel is also accessibly for non guests. Especially in spring until autumn people love to dive into the waters. Even better if you stay there overnight and enjoy a three-days-treatment.

Hot springs in Tuscany

Did you know that Tuscany has most of all hot springs in Italy which were already loved by the Etruscans. Autumn is the most popular season for the hot springs in Tuscany. People want to get ready for the winter and strengthen their defences of the body. In fact, the thermal water is rich of bicarbonate and sulphates which cure different kinds of diseases, e.g. bone and joint complaints, metabolic disorders, gastritis, inflammation, as well as skin problems. But also in the deepest winter I highly recommend a spa treatment.

We arrived in the late afternoon at Posta Marcucci. It was recommended to take a bath at least twice a day. I followed the tip and started each morning with a hot bath, which I had to get used to. I usually need a cold bath to wake up but it felt to good. We did so in the evening too.

  • For the night owls the spa is open until 8 pm each day
  • Every Wednesday and Saturday the Bagno sotto le stelle (Italian for Bath under the stars) takes place from 9 – 12pm – 20€ for non hotel guests
  • Non hotel-guest can use the thermal bath for a daily price of 27€ (spring to autumn) and 20€ (autumn to spring)

Traditional Italian tranquillità à casa

At the Casa (Italian for home), how the Posta Marcucci loves to name itself, you’ll feel immediately at home. The cozy lounge areas with old furniture are stunning. A popular photo spot is the door frame with the numerous plates. Such a decor works really well in such a lovely hotel.

The Rooms at Posta Marcucci

The 36 cute, traditional Italian decorated hotel rooms invite for a long weekend in Tuscany. Each room is unique and individually decorated. I slept in the spacious 112, which I highly recommend. The bed was super comfortable and I love the recently renovated bathroom.

Room prices

There are four categories.

Standard double rooms start from 125€

Love for local – gastronomy at Posta Marcucci

The Posta Marccui has its own philosophy, which addresses a certain kind of clientele. Far away from commercial which also reflects in its cuisine. The hotel puts emphasis on local products which of course stands out in taste. But they’ve also set some more rules, e.g. that they don’t serve meat on Fridays. The dishes were all super delicious with a certain sophistication. None of the evening menus were boring and incorporated pure Tuscany feeling. Rounded off with the perfect wine pairing – a dream!

For a Negroni at the Green Bar

Of course, it wasn’t over after dinner. We met for a night cap at the lovely Green Bar. Some Negroni or Americanos were served, two traditional Italian Aperitivi. I found my new favorite drink and I had to get a bottle of Campari right when I got back and mix one. I love bitter drinks!
