Skiholiday in Switzerland. You may have seen the hashtag #LAAXisniceyo on my Instagram account quite often in the past weeks. Not surprisingly, because we were all caught by the Laax-Fever and were all in ‚Yo’-mode. Our last whatsapp-text in our group chat also ended with the word. Laax? Never heard about it? Then it’s already long overdue for a visit!Laax is probably the most laid-back, sustainable and modern winter resorts of Europe. Friends of mine have been riding freestyle for years and they were always in search for the perfect snowboard spots. Laax has been definitely one of their favourites – now also mine! Honestly, I’ve never been on a ski holiday before either. Growing up in the Alps we had the slopes right on our doorsteps. Therefore, we never went on a real ski holiday with hitting the slopes during the day and relaxing in the spa afterwards. This is why I was even more excited to spend some days in Switzerland. These past years I haven’t skied a lot but this year it got me again. Up to now I can already count six times and there are hopefully more to come.

Ski Holidays in Switzerland – Day 1 Arrival at Peaks Place

The winter resort Laax is approximately a 3,5h hour drive away from Munich. I imagined the landscape to be a lot whiter as I’ve checked the amount of snow every day on my Laax-App (yes the winter resort is super modern but I’ll tell you more a bit later). In the end we were welcomed with some sunshine, which wasn’t bad either. Late in the afternoon we arrived at the Peaks Place: Hotel & Apartments, which is a lovely hotel at the foot of the Rockresort of Laax. The moment I started complaining about the snow conditions on Social Media it started snowing. And it hadn’t stopped during our stay. That meant: POWDER!

During the afternoon the rest of our blogger crew arrived. Some of them had longer travels than us coming from Munich. They came from Berlin, Koblenz, Hamburg or Wiesbaden. This may sound super far away but Laax is only a 1.5 hour drive away from Zurich Airport.

Dinner at The Peaks by Manuel Reichenbach

Culinary art and mountains go hand in hand for me. Laax has such a great variety of different restaurants and more recommendations will follow within the post. The first evening we all stayed at our hotel restaurant The Peaks by Manuel Reichenbach.

The menu is creative but also offers down-to-earth dishes like burgers. Moreover, they one daily changing dish from the Carving waggon, such as Lamb Gigot with Bündner polenta and ratatouille (48 CHF – around 45€) every Tuesdays or the braised duck with orange sauce with a fig-red cabbage and potato dumplings (48 CHF) every Thursdays. I had the absolute goat cheese overload that evening as I was snacking on it during the Apéro too. But I can’t resist Swiss cheese, which is so delicious. As starter I had the warm goat cheese on a carrot salad with a honey-mustard-dressing (20 CHF) and afterwards I chose the Vegi burger with pearl barley and chickpeas (17 CHF). As sweet desert I had to take the cheesecake – yes please! As I mentioned, absolute cheese overload! The evening ended with drinks at the bar.

Day 2 Winter Resort Laax – 224 kilometres of slopes
modernity and sustainability

224 kilometres of slopes, 4 snow parks, 28 ski lifts and over 30 restaurants! LAAX-App, which clearly demonstrates all! In fact, innovations and sustainability is at the very top of the list. The app is super handy, i.e. you can book your ski tickets beforehand, book a table through the app but you’re also able to order your lunch or dinner. Of course, you can also check the snow conditions via the webcams and much more. However, all this is possible because they have free WIFI all over the ski resort.

Regarding sustainability Laax tries to become as independent as possible. Their so-called Greenstyle is on top of the agenda and you find information points, where you can see what you can improve in the environment. Here are a couple of projects that have already been made or are in planning:

• 100% renewable energy: via water power or solar energy. Moreover, a wind farm is planned, which could supply around 5000 households (more than Laax would need).
• Water neutrality: you’ll find free spots with fresh water everywhere. You can bring your own bottle or get one for your trip in the shops. Simply refill it during the day and reduce the waste of plastic.
• Transport: there are already some electric cars on the way and more charging stations are planned
• And so on…

Swiss delicacies at Tegia Larnags

Besides the many restaurants right at the bottom of the ski lifts you’ll also find some alpine huts which are easily accessible on foot. On our second evening we ate at the Tegia Larnags. Here you’ll find typical Swiss delicacies. I only have to say one word: cheese fondue! Can it get even more Swiss than this? They offer various sides along the fondue and we chose the one with ananas & pear (31 CHF). You can also order some potatoes extra! As sweet final you need to try the Toblerone mousse (12 CHF), which was so good!

Day 3 culinary trail through the winter wonderland

Unfortunately, we had to reschedule our program a little as it was snowing too much. There would have been the possibility to try an Early Bird, which means that you can hit the slopes before the official opening. And if the weather isn’t perfect for skiing you can also book different activities, such as a culinary trail through the winter wonderland of Flims. All the beautiful winter impressions would go beyond the scope of this article, which is why I’ll post it separately.

Asian conclusion at Nooba

Our amazing weekend ended at the Asian noodle bar NOOBA at the Rocksresort. I feel like we only have been eating all weekend long. A lighter meal was urgently needed. The restaurant is always packed and you’ll mostly find young people. The ambience is super relaxed and the food is super good. The night ended up at the Riders Palace, which is the spot for your night-out in Laax.
