Marbella in low season – my recommendations!

I just wanted to excuse myself for not having posted in a while now. But, you don’t need to say sorry all the time. Since I got back from Japan I got a bit ill, which I’m still carrying around with me for weeks. At some point I had to realize that sometimes it’s better to stay at home and get well. Therefor, I wasn’t really fit to publish new posts. Luckily there was a draft already waiting 😊

Today I’ve got some fun activities in Marbella in low season for you. Sometimes a classic beach vacation will get boring quickly, right?

Go hiking in the diverse nature and get a panorama view onto the COSTA DEL SOL

My highlight was definitely the hike through the hinterlands of Marbella. I highly recommend driving there. Together with our mountain guide, booked via the Amàre Beach Hotel Marbella, we strolled through the beautiful nature for some hours – lovely olive groves, mingy fields and then we dove into the cool wood. After an hour we finally reached the Refugio de Juanar. From there you have a great view onto the surrounding Sierra Blanca and the coast.

THE OLD CITY of Marbella

Unfortunately, I’d missed the city tour through Marbella the day before. On the only sunny day, I grabbed my camera and strolled through the cute old town of Marbella. Once in a while a senior travel group passed, which was probably due to the low season. The old town was super calm and I can imagine how full and lively it must be in summertime.

Dine at Michelin starred restaurant MESSINA

Together with our press group we had a fun evening at the Michelin-starred restaurant Messina. This is located right next to the Amàre Beach Hotel Marbella. Personally, I really loved the food and the wine accompaniment was very good. But I also have to criticize a few points:

  • While I my colleagues sticked to the same wine I had the wine accompaniment but they rushed through it quite quickly. I couldn’t even finish my first glass when they’d offered me a new one. However, the wines were really good.
  • I feel like a Michelin starred restaurant should focus on regionality. Despite the chef’s connection to Argentina there were only a few Spanish ones on the menu.
  • The interior of the restaurant is very clean and in my opinion a bit too sterile.

However, I would recommend the restaurant for a culinary excursion.

Marbella NIGHTLIFE

After a good dinner we just had to continue our good night and live the #MarbellaLifestyle. Marbella is known as a good spot to party. On that evening we went to two clubs:

  1. The first, Olivia Valere, was quite a posh club, which I’d only found because one of the PRs texted me via Instagram DM. Therefore, he’d put us on the guest list. We sipped an expensive 15€ long drink. There were mainly a lot of British people with Indian roots.
  2. Since there wasn’t much vibe coming up we switched location and drove down to the port of Marbella. There was much more going on. A lot more locals were partying along with tourists, better music. We had a good time there.

We got home around 4 am. The best part was that our hotel was only a five minutes walk away.

I hope you liked these pictures.

Talk to you soon!

Living the Marbella lifestyle – Amàre Marbella Beach Hotel

340 sunny days! The stunning Costa del Sol in Andalusia definitely belongs to the most sunny regions in Europe. No wonder that so many English and Dutch people bought a summer residence there. These days prices have definitely gone up high and are not affordable anymore. Luckily, there are is a wide range of exquisite hotels. We stayed at the beautiful Amàre Beach Hotel Marbella. The mediterranean 4* stars hotel is the perfect compromise – right next at the doors of the cute old town of Marbella and the perfect proximity to the beach. Not to mention the stylish interior inside!

Marbella Beach Restaurant | Lunch at SOLEO Marbella

Shame on me that I haven’t told you about my trip to Marbella yet. And because it is FoodFriday today, let’s kick off the Marbella posts with a great restaurant recommendation at Marbella’s beach promenade – SOLEO Marbella. A stunning restaurant where you can also lunch or dine with your feet in the sand. Oh, and wait for the interior!

A trendy beach restaurant SOLEO MARBELLA

Can you feel how my interior heart bumped as soon as I’ve spotted the interior? A beautiful mix of hexagon tiles combined to red and white striped upholstered settees. The tables in a light wooden texture combined to mediterranean porcelain.

SOLEO Marbella FOOD & DRINKS

On the menu you’ll find a selection of traditional Spanish and Andalusian dishes with a modern twist. My highlight was the smoked salmon tartar with avocado (18,00€).

  • Do it the Spanish way and order some “tapas” to share to start with!

Not leaving Spain without eating PAELLA!

Last time I was in Barcelona we had such a delicious paella. That was also the first time I’d tried a black paella. Therefore, had to order two different types of paella – a Black paella with cuttlefish and prawns (15,00€) and a Seafood paella.

  • Did you know the the traditional paella is a mix of seafood and meat?

Résumée

I’d definitely would come back the next time in Marbella. The prices may be a bit higher but it’s expensive anywhere in Marbella. The quality of the food was great. The whole experience was definitely worth it. Make sure to book a table in advance in high season.

Summer flares

Konnichiwa from Tokyo! Over ten days I’m already here in Tokio together with EF Germany for a Japanese language course. You can read all about it here!* Time flies so quickly.

This modern background with concrete and glass could also be somewhere in Japan. But in these pictures I was back in Berlin. Meanwhile the heat has turned on as I’ve heard and a look like this with a knit top is not really wearable. I found these coole palazzo pants from H&M* before I left to Tokyo. I just love their light material and they are perfect to wear for work too. I’ll try to get some work done now and then we’re heading out to have running sushi. All the Japanese food is so so so good here.
