“Grüezimitenand” The last time I was in Zurich was in 2015. I still remember the press trip to the Widder Hotel too well. There Julia (@chicchoolee) and I got to know each other for the first time (the first time here in London fleetingly at breakfast in 2014). Zurich is just an incredibly beautiful city (Switzerland in general). A weekend visit was absolutely overdue. Said – booked!
A fantastic Saturday in Zurich. Sunday with great weather skiing in Laax. That’s how I like the winter weekends!
Saturday morning at the market in Zurich
After an extensive breakfast we walked from Central reins into the old town of Zurich. To the right along the Limmat through the small cozy alleys to Grossmünster. Inside the church you can admire the most famous Giacometti windows as well as the colourful semi-precious stone windows of Sigmar Polke. These are the result of a competition held in 2005/2006.
Still want to see Zurich from above? Of course. Nothing like climbing the tower of the Grossmünster. The view is fantastic in good weather, as you can see.
- Admission to the church is free of charge. The entrance fee is 5 CHF for adults.
Out of town for a few hours? You can also go hiking in the Zurich area. From the city, for example, you can hike up the Uetliberg. At the top is the Hotel Utokulm. Super nice view of the city.
A quick St. Galler sausage at Sternen Grill
Zurich is very expensive to eat, which is why people queue especially at the sausage stalls. Here I can recommend you the star grill at the opera place. Buy a St. Gallen Bratwurst (CHF 7.50) and stroll down to Lake Zurich.
- If you miss the Sternen Grill, there are a few more Würstlstandli along the lake shore.
- Get tasty cheese, Bündner meat or anything else for a picnic at Lake Zurich in the Coop on Opernplatz.
How much I would have liked to “grillieren” in such weather, as the Swiss say so beautifully. But if you don’t have any friends with a roof terrace for a barbecue, you can enjoy the sunset on the following terraces:
- George’s Grill
- Hiltl (vegetarian)
- on the Rooftop Restaurant on the 6th floor of the flagship store Modissa
- Jules Verne
- Sundowner at the opera house
