Postcards from Montréal

EN – Montréal. I spent my last days in Montréal and had some last intensive sightseeing days. Generally speaking, Montréal city is the biggest island on the St. Lawrence river and accessible by a few bridges. As a matter of fact, one of the only fears of the inhabitants is not being able to leave the island in any emergency case. Another landmark is the three-head hill in the center of the city, whereof it holds its name – the Mont-Royal.
DAY 1: I discovered the city on foot and walked from Sherbrooke all the way downtown passing the Quartier du Musée and other nice places. I ended up at Cacao70 for a huge brunch (more in my food hopping post on Friday – follow along also on Instagram #thegoldenbuneats). Afterwards, I started hiking all the way up on the Terasse du Mont-Royal, where you have an impressive view over the city (pictures will be up tomorrow). Finally, I walked all the way to Mile-End, which is a really cool area on the plateau. There are a lot of really cool shops, which I am also going to show you in a separate post. Finally, I finished my sightseeing-tour with a delicious burger at Burger Royal.
DAY 2: I went to the Vieux Montréal/Old Montréal and had a nice stroll at the Vieux Port/Old Port. For lunch I headed to China Town for a great Pho at Pho Cali. Afterwards, I headed to the Palais de Congrés, which is the colorful building. From there on to Square Victoria, entered the World Trade Center and made my way back to the Vieux Port. But after the past intense weeks I was totally exhausted and you can probably imagine that I wasn’t able to walk anymore. In the late afternoon I caught up with some friends in Mile-End and had a quick burger-to-go at Patati Patata, which is a really cute place in Mile-End. Afterwards, we headed back to the Old Montréal for some drinks at Jardin Nelson.
DAY 3: After realizing that my flight was at night I still had time for a stroll at the Marché Jean Talon. I simply love markets and I’ve never seen a market where you get so many free appetizers. The other public markets are Marché Atwater, Marché Maisonneuve and Marché de Lachine. Oh man, I had a great time in Montréal!
More tomorrow!DE – Montréal. Die letzten Tage habe ich in Montréal bei Freunden verbracht und habe mir nochmals das volle Programm Sightseeing gegönnt. Die Stadt selbst liegt auf der Île-de-Montréal und ist die größte Insel auf dem St. Lorenz Strom. Sie ist nur über ein paar Brücken zugänglich. Daher ist die größte Angst der Einwohner, die Stadt in einem Notfall nicht verlassen zu können. Das Stadtbild wird vom Mont-Royal geprägt, woher sich auch der Name der Stadt ableitet.
TAG 1: Ich bin zu Fuß los gestartet und Downtown vorbei am Quartier du Musée und weiter in Richtung Cacao70 für einen leckeren Brunch einkehrt (genaueres gibt es Freitag bei meinem Foodhopping-Post – auf Instagram könnt ihr mir unter #thegoldenbuneats folgen). Gestärkt bin ich dann den weiten Weg hoch auf die Terrasse vom Mont-Royal gewandert. Von dort aus hat man einen super Blick auf die Stadt und der Weg hoch lohnt sich. Anschließend bin ich zu Fuß nach Mile-End spaziert, das ein sehr hippes Viertel auf dem Plateau ist. Ich zeige euch in einem separaten Post mehr Eindrücke davon. Schlussendlich habe ich mal wieder einen Burger verzehrt, dieses Mal bei Burger Royal, und bin dann tot ins Bett gefallen.
TAG 2: Das alte Stadtzentrum konnte ich mir natürlich nicht entgehen lassen und so ging es am nächsten Tag gleich ins Vieux Montréal/Alte Montréal. Von dort aus gelangt man auch einfach an den Vieux Port/Alten Hafen. China Town ist nun irgendwie ein Muss für mich geworden und so hab ich mir mittags eine leckere Schüssel Pho bei Pho Cali gegönnt. Anschließend musste ich mir noch den architektonisch bzw. gestalterisch interessanten Palais des Congrés ansehen, dessen Fassade sich dank der Sonne bunt reflektierte. Von dort aus bin ich bis zum Square Victoria gelaufen und kurz ins World Trade Center reingegangen. Nach den letzten intensiven Wochen war ich aber super müde und konnte einfach nicht mehr den ganzen Tag laufen. Deshalb bin ich nochmals hoch nach Mile-End gefahren und hab dort noch die Nachmittagssonne genossen. Mit ein paar Freunden bin anschließend noch auf einen schnellen Burger-to-go zu Patati Patata gegangen. Anschließend ging es dann auf ein paar Drinks im Jardin Nelson wieder zurück in die Altstadt.
TAG 3: Glücklicherweise ging mein Flug erst abends, so konnte ich noch auf den Marché Jean Talon. Ich liebe Märkte und auch das, ist ein Must-do für mich bei Städtereisen geworden. Der Markt war super und ich habe noch nie einen gesehen, wo so viele kostenlose Kostproben angeboten werden. Da konnte man sich echt satt essen. Weitere Märkte sind der Marché Atwater, Marché Maisonneuve und Marché de Lachine. Die Zeit in Montréal war echt super!
