What a great winter in South Tyrol this year! It had already started to snow before Christmas and snowed again and again the past days. The winter wonderland up in the mountains is a dream. You can imagine that my holidays were filled with lots of activities up in the mountains – skiing, snow hike and much more.
Today I’m taking you on a snow / culinary hike on Alpe di Siusi. I’ve wanted to have lunch at the famous Gostner Schwaige in a while now as their hay soup in bread loaf is very popular. But also the other dishes looked promising.
HOW TO GET TO GOSTNER SCHWAIGE
You’re not allowed to drive up to Alpe di Siusi after 8:30 am. Therefore, you’ll have to park the car at the valley station and take the cable car up. From the summit station you can walk along the main street until Hotel Steger-Dellai and then follow the signs up ot Gostner Schwaige. This walk will take you approximately 30-45 minutes.
LUNCH AT GOSTNER SCHWAIGE
& the famous hay soup
On the menu you’ll find typical South Tyrolean dishes such as herb dumplings with alp cheese (12,70€), smoked specialities from pork, alpcheese and butter (16,90€), goulash from alp veal in Lagrein Dunkel shank (22,50€) and not to forget their Original Gostner Schwaige hay soup (10,90€).
- I highly recommend the scrambled Kaiserschmarrn with raisins and plum jam (14,90€), which was so delicious!

Vicky
