Sandwich Atelier. Had your mum also prepared delicious sandwiches for you for the school break? Mine were definitely always the best – a Southtyrolean Vorschlag bread or a small Ciabattina with ham – tomato – mayonnaise or mozzarella – tomato – rucola. Of course, always made with lots of love! When I was younger I used to eat the same sandwich again for my afternoon break. However, I associate the term sandwich with a big, unhealthy, American sandwich. Possibly because we don’t call it sandwich but simply Pausenbrot or belegtes Brot (ok, quite hard to explain that in English). I’ve realised the definition of sandwich when I was in France. It’s not une baguette avec jambon fromage but simply un sandwich avec… (add the beautiful French pronunciation here).

Herta Finesse Sandwich Atelier

Herta Finesse invited to a Sandwich Atelier before I left for Thailand. Thomy and Golden Toast were also in it. Up to then I still hadn’t known what I would experience. The only information I had was that we would create our Signature Sandwich. The famous Food Stylist Max Faber introduced us into the art of food styling while the gracious Yvonne from kinkibox Nähcafé helped us to sew our own sandwich bag.

Herta Finesse Food Styling with Max Faber

It’s not a secret that there’s a little foodie hidden in me. Some of you may think that I spend most of my time eating at restaurants but I also love to cook by myself. Even though everyone should cook intuitively I usually try to follow the exact recipe. Isn’t there a reason why exact measurements are listed? Otherwise they could just put the ingredients. Good thing is that you don’t need any measurements for a sandwich – quick and easy! I immediately felt the urge to create a super healthy sandwich variation – Herta Finesse ham with pumpkin seed, beetroots, avocado, sunflower seed, fresh mint, radish and cress. Well, the mint was a little experiment. I love to put it everywhere because it tastes so fresh and oriental too. Seeing my absolute perfect foodstyling (I was pretty good, hugh?) you may think that you can’t really eat it. As a matter of fact the workshop was all about foodstyling. However, it passed the eating test, too, and tasted deliciously!

Onto sewing

My creativity gained the upper hand. Therefore, my sandwich bag should be also over the top and more importantly multi functional. I’ve sewed myself a cute sandwich bag/clutch with this beautiful palm print. Also, sewing got me bitten in the back. How do you like it?
